Stanford senior Ally Howe won her first individual NCAA title in her career after she was on a number of winning relays. Last night, Howe led off the winning 400 medley relay team for the fourth straight year, but she had yet to win an individual title. Howe won the 100 back final with a 49.70 to just miss her NCAA and American Record of 49.69. Howe did break the meet record that was a 49.84 by Kathleen Baker from last year.

Howe stated after the race that this was her last 100 back of her career, so this is assuming she has already decided to hang up the goggles and not pursue a pro career.

Howe finished ahead of Wisconsin sophomore Beata Nelson (49.92) and Baker (50.18).

NC State’s Elise Haan (50.42), Stanford’s Janet Hu (50.63), Indiana’s Ally Rockett (51.11), Texas’ Claire Adams (51.38) and Missouri’s Hannah Stevens (51.74).

This is Stanford’s seventh NCAA title in the 100 back as Howe joins Lea Loveless (1992-1994), Jessica Tong (1996) and Catherine Fox (1997-1998) as winners for the Cardinal.
