Akron Kicks Off 2026 Recruiting Push With Verbal From York YMCA’s Camryn Leydig
NEW COMMIT: The University of Akron has officially launched their Class of 2026 recruiting after receiving a verbal commitment from Junior National qualifier Camryn Leydig of York, Pa.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to The University of Akron where I will continue my athletic and academic career! Thank you to all of my family, friends, and coaches who have supported me through it all! Go Zips! ⚡️?”
A talented backstroker and butterflyer, Leydig does her club swimming with York YMCA and most recently notched a best time at the Brian Gunn Championships this past weekend. Last December, she won the 200 back and was the runner-up in the 200 fly at the Arena Capital Classic.
In 2019, she raced four events at YMCA SCY Nationals in April and competed at YMCA LCM Nationals in July.
Her best times include:
- 100 back – 55.46
- 200 back – 1:59.40
- 100 fly – 54.51
- 200 fly – 2:02.45
- 100 free – 51.93
- 200 IM – 2:05.93
Currently a junior at Central York High School, Leydig is already a three-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. She placed fifth in the 100 fly and seventh in the 100 back as a sophomore while taking 12th in the latter during her freshman season.
Even with 1.5 years to go before suiting up for the Zips at the start of the 2022-23 season, Leydig will make an immediate impact. Last season, she would’ve been their third-fastest swimmer in the 100 fly, 100 back, and 200 back.
She also would’ve scored in the A-final of the 100 fly and 200 back as well as the B-final of the 100 back and 200 fly at the 2020 MAC Championships where Akron captured their seventh-straight title.
