Adriana Contreras Hired as Assistant Coach at Kentucky
Adriana Contreras was hired on Thursday as an assistant coach at Kentucky by head coach Bret Lundgaard.
Contreras spent the last four seasons as an assistant coach at the University of Nevada, primarily focused on the sprint and IM groups. She helped the Wolfpack to four NCAA qualifiers and 10 school-record performances. She also spent the last three seasons as the program’s recruiting coordinator and was elevated to associate head coach.
“We are excited to welcome Adriana to BBN,” Lundgaard said in a press release. “She has a proven track record of making a positive impact on every program and person she works with. Her energy, professionalism, work ethic, and passion for developing student-athletes will be tremendous assets to our team and the overall experience our athletes have at Kentucky.”
Contreras has nine years of college coaching experience. She began working in the college realm as director of operations and then assistant coach over two seasons at the University of the Pacific from 2017-18. She was a volunteer assistant at UC Davis in 2021-22 before moving to Nevada.
Outside of college, she worked with age-group swimmers at Tiger Aquatics from 2015-18 and senior-level athletes at Lodi Swim Club in 2018-19. She was a national-group coach at DART Swimming from 2019-22.
Contreras has worked at several USA national and regional Diversity Select Camps. She participated in the 2019 USA Swimming Leadership Summit and LSC Leadership Summit and serves on the USA Swimming Sports Medicine Committee.
