Addison McGrath’s Four Goals Not Enough As No. 8 Water Polo Falls To No. 7 San Diego State 12-11 At MPSF Tournament

HONOLULU, Hawaii, April 26 THE No. 8 Arizona State University water polo team lost 12-11 to No. 7 San Diego State on Sunday in the seventh-place game of the MPSF Championships in Hawai'i. The Sun Devils end the season with a 13-15 overall record.

Senior Addison McGrath finished off her Arizona State career with four goals in the loss. She had 11 goals in the three games of the conference tournament, giving her 63 on the season. McGrath departs as the school's all-time leader with 237 goals and 66 multiple-goal games.

Junior Bonnie Miles and sophomore Nikki Unbehaun had two goals each in the game, while junior Kelly Phelps and sophomores Sam Schubert and Lynlee Smith added a goal apiece. Miles and Phelps scored goals in all three games of the tournament, while Smith's goal gave her a team-high 64 on the season, her first in college water polo.

The Aztecs jumped out to a 4-1 lead after the first quarter, and they maintained that three-goal advantage through three. ASU rallied to get within one in the fourth, but San Diego State held off the rally to win 12-11.
