NEW COMMIT: Abby Martin has verbally committed to swim for the University of Illinois. The team will have a sister duo on its roster next fall as Martin joins her sister, Emily, who will be a junior next year. Martin is a senior at Illini Central High School and swims for Academy Bullets Swim Club.
She wrote on Twitter,
“Excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Illinois! Can’t wait to continue my athletic & academic career in Champaign!”
The distance freestyler’s best times are:
- 500 Free 5:02.67
- 1000 Free 10:21.76
- 1650 Free 17:11.58
She’ll join a distance group in Champaign led by Monica Guyett, who finished 27th (16:53.90) in the 1650 at Big Tens last year. In addition to Guyett, the elder Martin should make a good training partner for her sister in the 500, after posting a 5:04.35 in that event at last year’s conference championship.
Academy Bullets Swim Club now has five seniors verbally committed to swim in college: Kenzie Arens, Camryn Streid, Jennifer Hauser and Spencer Walker.
