The 2020 Pac-12 Women’s Championships continued on Friday with a full session from Federal Way, Washington, but without Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil.

The senior sprinter was a declared false start in the 200 free, an event she was expected to contend for a title.

Weitzeil did not compete in the session. Sources confirmed she hyper-extended her arm on the finish of the 50 free earlier in the meet. The same thing happened to Weitzeil at the NCAA Championships last year. It caused her to wear a wrap during the NCAA Championships, which caused one of Cal’s NCAA records to only be an NCAA record and not an American record because of USA Swimming rules regarding the wrap.

Cal released this statement: “Abbey injured her arm at the finish of the 50 free Thursday night and was held out of the 200 free relay as a precaution. She will be evaluated session by session to determine her status for the remainder of the meet.”

Southern Cal’s Laticia Transom won the event, going a 1:42.47 in Weitzeil’s absence.

USC sophomore Laticia Transom jumped from the fourth seed all the way to the top of the podium in the 200 free, winning in 1:42.47. She dropped nearly two seconds from her prelims time and finished nearly an entire second ahead of the field.

Arizona State’s Emma Nordin finished second in 1:43.45, followed by Cal’s Robin Neumann (1:44.02).

USC’s Tatum Wade finished fourth in 1:44.37, ahead of Arizona State’s Cierra Runge (1:44.51) and Erica Laning (1:44.78) and Stanford’s Katie Drabot (1:45.06), who had the top seed from the prelims, and Morgan Tankersley (1:45.92).

Abbey Weitzeil did not swim in the event because of injury.
