32 Arizona Age-Group Swimmers Getting Opportunity To Race At Arena Pro Swim Series

Age group swimmers at Arena Pro Swim Series

This week’s Arena Pro Swim Series will feature some of the greatest swimmers in history, including Michael Phelps and Katie Ledecky. A special event on Saturday will feature 32 Arizona age-group swimmers from seven teams as they compete in a special relay and mingle with national team athletes. It’s possible that many of them could find themselves on the blocks racing at a future Arena Pro Swim Series, signing autographs with the next generation of swimmers.

The Arena Pro Swim Series has given this opportunity to local young athletes at some of the meets on the circuit since becoming the primary sponsor of the series in January 2013. Rowdy Gaines has served as emcee and will do so again this Saturday. He’ll be joined by world championship team members Breeja Larson and Tom Shields. Larson has a special connection to Arizona, as she began her swimming career with Mesa Aquatic Club and set off on the path to NCAA and Olympic glory.

The following is the list of teams represented at the event:

Swim Neptune (Phoenix, AZ)
Mesa Family Valley of the Sun YMCA (Mesa, AZ)
Vitras Swim Club (Buckeye, AZ)
Arizona Aquatic Club (Chandler, AZ)
Arizona Swimming Gauchos (Glendale, AZ)
Seville Country Club Sharks (Gilbert, AZ)
Scottsdale Aquatic Club (Scottsdale, AZ)
Mesa Aquatic Club (Mesa, AZ)

The athletes are all 12 years and younger and were selected to participate in the event based on social media submissions. The meet-and-greet and relay competition will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, just before that day’s finals at the Skyline Aquatic Center.
