While “Call Me Maybe” did not make a return during the 2016 Olympic cycle, Team USA did get a chance to sing and dance as they jumped on the bandwagon of one of the fast growing trends in the country! New trends hit the market and some old ones even returned to become some of the biggest swimming trends of 2016.
Mannequin Challenge
The #Mannequin Challenge may have only appeared across social media a shy two months ago, but it quickly stole the show across all of social media. Swimmers, divers, and water polo players were all quick to jump in on the still action with videos of elaborate poses held without movement.
Snow Swimming
The first big snow of the season came in late January and with it #SnowSwimming made its cold return. Becca Mann of North Baltimore was the first to brave the snow, posting a video of her “swim” on her Twitter account. Dancing teammate Sierra Schmidt quickly joined by busting some of her signature dance moves in the frigid cold.

The training group at Nation’s Capital-West later joined in on the fun after Administrative Head Coach Mark Faherty challenged them to submit their best snow swimming takes.
Carpool Karaoke
While the Carpool Karaoke phenomena was not started by the swimming community, Team USA took full advantage of the newest craze while in Atlanta, Georgia for one of their Olympic training camps.
Team USA’s roster split up into multiple groups and hit the streets of Atlanta singing along to theme songs from “Friends,” “That 70’s Show,” “Pokemon,” and more!
