Ahhh, it’s that time of the year again. Championship season is over (or soon to be over) and springtime means warmer weather, longer days…

…and back to practice for post-season.

Swimmers rarely get an extended period of time off, and trust me, we enjoy every minute of it. Our time away from the pool, no matter how long our breaks were, was much needed.

We caught up on sleep, enjoyed our spring breaks, and experienced this foreign concept called “free time.” The last thing on our minds was getting back to practice. But before we knew it, we found ourselves on the pool deck once again.

Here are 29 thoughts swimmers have during their first off-season practice:

  1. Maybe just one more week off?
  2. I can’t even find my goggles.
  3. Do I HAVE to?
  4. But the constant smell of chlorine JUST went away.
  5. And my goggle marks will be back.
  6. My suit probably won’t even fit.
  7. I literally forgot how to swim.
  8. *pretends to not hear Coach say this top*
  9. …next top?
  10. Coach, stop yelling, I’ll go on THIS top.
  11. Next top, I promise!
  12. Am I seriously about to do this right now?
  13. Here I go…
  14. Here goes nothing…
  15. *dives in*
  16. No no no no no no no no no no.
  17. If I sink to the bottom, please leave me there.
  18. Was the pool always this cold?
  19. Okay, this isn’t too bad.
  20. *finishes warmup*
  21. I AM SO OUT OF BREATH.
  22. THIS IS HOW IT ENDS.
  23. Why does it take, like, 3 seconds to get out of shape in swimming?
  24. I should’ve just called it quits during break.
  25. *reads workout*
  26. Is Coach seriously trying to kill us on our first day back?
  27. Swimming was so much easier a few weeks ago.
  28. When does taper start?
  29. Well, maybe I missed it a little.

The first few practices are definitely an adjustment after some time away from the pool, but once we get back into it, it’s almost like we never left.
