There has been plenty of debate about tech swimsuits over the years and it has reached a fever pitch this year.

Are they keeping the sport on an even playing field? Are they OK for international competition? Where is the line drawn? At what age is a tech suit OK?

It led to the banning of high-tech suits for younger swimmers by some local governing bodies in Southern California, New England, New Jersey, Arkansas and South Carolina.

While governing swimming bodies have regulations set to keep the sport moving forward and faster, but also as fair as possible, there is still a debate and it is out of the water.

The expense of the suit is still a major topic, especially for parents. CBS Morning News highlighted this issue on Saturday.

Some families spend as much as 10 percent of their income on sports activities, when you include equipment, training and travel, the CBS report stated. Equipment alone is a $15-billion industry, the report stated. Most tech suits range from $100-$549, according to the report.

As long as the playing field has the perception of being uneven and the suits are that expensive, the debate will continue.
