The week filled with upsets continued on Saturday, this time in the Pac-12 as the Arizona State women defeated No. 23 Florida State 152.5-147.5 with an exciting finish.

The No. 8 ASU men (2-0) defeated the No. 20 Seminoles, 176-124.

ASU won the first four individual events, highlighted by Ben Olszewski, who continued Friday’s winning ways with a 1000 free win by almost 14 seconds. In the next event, the women’s 200 free, freshman Emma Nordin came from behind to earn a close victory.

The Sun Devils would later go on a five-event win streak, starting with Zach Poti‘s 100 back win followed by a 100 breast (Silja Kansakoski/Christian Lorenz) and 200 fly (Caitlyn Wilson/Patrick Park) sweep.

A second five-event win streak would start with the men’s 200 back, once again starting with Poti and followed by a 200 breast (Kansakoski/Lorenz) and 500 free (Nordin/Olszewski) sweep.

Andrew Porter (100 fly) and Marlies Ross (200 IM) also were winner.

Arizona sweeps Utah

Arizona swept Utah on Saturday in head coach Augie Busch‘s first home meet as the Wildcats’ new coach.

The men defeated the Utes 147-115 while the women cruised to a 185-77 victory. The women, who opened the season two weeks ago with a victory over Washington State in Pullman, improved to 2-0 on the season.

On the women’s side, Hannah Cox won all three events that she competed in, the 1,000 free, 500 free and 200 IM. Daniela Georges (200 free), Mallory Korenwinder (100 breast), Mik Ranslem (200 fly), Katrina Konopka (50 free) and Cameron McHugh (200 back) also finished on the top of the podium.

For the men, Brooks Fail (1,000 free, 500 free) and Sam Iida (200 breast, 200 IM) both won multiple events in their first ever collegiate meet. Jorge Iga (200 free), Justin Wright (200 fly) and Chad Idensohn (50 free) were also winners on Friday.

UCLA sweeps pink meet

UCLA swept its third annual Pink Meet with wins over Arkansas (162.50-131.50), UC Davis (207-87) and Washington State (152-104). The Bruins tallied 10 wins in the meet’s 14 events.

Katie Grover, Kenisha Liu, Emma Schanz and Sandra Soe tallied two individual victories apiece for the Bruins.

The quartet of Schanz, Sarah Kaunitz, Grover and Liu teamed up to give the Bruins’ their first win of the day, completing the 200 Medley Relay in a time of 1:42.56.

In the first distance event of the day, Soe’s time of 9:59.86 was 7.10 seconds faster than the Razorbacks’ Peyton Palsha. That would mark the first of five straight individual wins for the Bruins, as Liu would follow suit next, winning the 200 Free with a time of 1:49.13.

Schanz would narrowly edge Emily Cook of Washington State by two hundredths of a second, checking in at 55.39.

Bruins went 1-2 in the 100 Breast, as Sarah Kaunitz finished in a time of 1:03.47, just over a second ahead of freshman Emma Cain (1:04.76). The 200 Fly was another close one, with Grover (1:58.92) barely holding off Arkansas’ Jessie Garrison (1:59.06).

Washington State’s Hannah Bruggman recorded the first non-Bruin win of the day with a time of 23.64 in the 50 Free. UCLA’s Goldsmith finished a close second at 23.73. Liu (50.51) would later best Bruggman (50.90) by less than one half second in the 100 Free.

In diving, Arkansas’ Brooke Schultz had a big day, setting one pool record and narrowly claiming another, setting the Dirks Pool-best score of 345.20 in the 3-Meter event.

Arkansas tallied victories in back-to-back swimming events down the stretch, with Chloe Hannam (1:58.48) taking the 200 back and Sydney Angell (2:16.97) winning the 200 breast.
