SEC Weekly Preview: Pair of Three-Way Showdowns Loom
By Dan D’Addona.
There is a full slate of SEC meets this week, with a couple of big showdowns to watch out four.
On Friday, a three-way showdown opens at Auburn with Wisconsin and Tennessee. The Badgers will kick off their season at this showdown.
Tennessee has a lot of question marks coming into the season and should have a better knowledge where it stands after facing Auburn and Wisconsin. Auburn is looking to prove it belongs back in the top group of SEC powers.
A two-day meet Friday and Saturday will be another three-way showdown as Michigan State and Texas A&M swim at Notre Dame.
The Spartans are looking to ride some momentum after the football team knocked off rival Michigan. It will be an uphill battle in this meet, but MSU will gain some big-time experience heading into the Big Ten season.
Another three-way showdown will feature three SEC teams on Saturday as South Carolina and Arkansas face Missouri.
The Gamecocks have distance specialists Akram Mahmoud and Fynn Minuth returning, while Missouri will be figuring out how to score major points without Michael Chadwick and Fabian Schwingenschlogl.
Non-conference showdowns
A couple of other SEC teams will be in action this week. On Thursday, Vanderbilt swims at North Florida. On Saturday, Kentucky hosts Eastern Michigan.
