The 2022 Pac-12 Women’s Championship continued with the Day 3 prelims session from Federal Way, Washington.

The session includes platform diving, the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.

Stanford took the early lead on Wednesday night by winning the 200 medley relay and 800 freestyle relay and continued that by winning the 200 free relay, plus the 200 IM and a tie for the 50 free.

Stanford comes into the day with 648.5 points. But USC is in second place after two days (549.5), ahead of Cal (486.5).

Regan Smith and Torri Huske set up an epic showdown in the 100 butterfly as the Cardinal continue to roll, while Smith and Brooke Forde also claimed top seeds.

Meanwhile, USC’s Kaitlyn Dobler broke the meet record in the 100 breaststroke as she continues her stellar season.

Pac-12 Women’s 400 IM

Brooke Forde continued her and Stanford’s dominance in the 400 IM. Forde was actually three second slower than her seed time from the midseason, but still took the top seed by a stunning five seconds as she touched the wall in 4:06.40.

UCLA’s Paige McEachern took the second seed in 4:11.48, followed by the Cal trio of Annika McEnroe (4:11.93), Leah Polonsky (4:12.36) and Alicia Wilson (4:13.02).

Meanwhile, USC’s Calypso Sheridan was also six seconds slower than her seed time and took the sixth seed in 4:13.68. If she held enough back in the tank for the finals, she could make things extremely interesting, as could Wilson.

Pac-12 Women’s 100 Butterfly

The anticipated showdown between Stanford freshmen Regan Smith and Torri Huske int eh 100 butterfly did not disappoint in the prelims session.

Smith used a strong back-half of the race to get to the wall in 50.32, while Huske was faster in the first half of the race, and touched just behind in 50.50.

It should be an incredibly fast final as Huske was near her seed time and Smith was two seconds faster than her speed time. If either one of them has more in the tank, the pac-12 record of 49.26 by Louise Hansson is in jeopardy and perhaps even the NCAA record of 48.49 set by Maggie Mac Neil last year.

Cal junior Rachel Klinker took the third seed in 52.33, followed by Arizona sophomore Julia Heimstead (52.37), UCLA’s Gabby Dang (52.39), USC’s Anicka Delgado (52.42), Stanford’s Emma Wheal (52.45) and UCLA’s Sam Baron (52.50).

USC sophomore Kaitlyn Dobler broke the Pac-12 meet record in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 57.68. It broke her own mark of 57.80 set last year.

It is close to the overall Pac-12 conference record of 57.36 set by Sarah Haase of Stanford, set in 2016.

USC got the second seed as well as Isabelle Odgers touched the wall in 1:00.01.

UCLA’s Claire Grover took the third seed (1:00.12), just ahead of Stanford’s Allie Raab (1:00.14) and UCLA’s Eva Carlson (1:00.17).
