Big 12 Championships Prelims Day 2: Texas Has Another Strong Opening

The 2022 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships continued in Morgantown, West Virginia.

The Texas men and women had a strong opening last night, especially in the relays. The women broke their previously held record in the 200 medley relay (1:34.04) while the men were a second off meet record time in the same event (1:22.24).

Both the men and the women maintained their strong performances throughout prelims. Texas finished in at least the top-3 spots in every event this morning.

Women’s 500 Freestyle

The second day of Big 12 competition opened with the women’s 500 freestyle. The Longhorn women had an impressive showing taking the top four slots going into tonight’s final. Evie Pfeifer, who claimed this meet record last year, led the group touching the wall in 4:42.34. Erica Sullivan followed closely behind her teammate stopping the clock at 4:43.21.

On the men’s side, Texas continued to dominate going one, two, three into the A-finals tonight. Coby Carozza (4:14.00) was nine one-hundredths of a second ahead of his teammate David Johnston (4:14.09).
