2020 US Open: Carson Foster Completes Medley Sweep
Several hours after they finished first and second in the 200 individual medley at the San Antonio site of the US Open, Carson Foster and Jake Foster recorded another 1-2 showing, this time in the 400 individual medley. Leading the University of Texas contingent, Carson Foster won the 400 IM in 4:16.51, a performance that was three seconds clear of his older brother, who went 4:19.44.
Carson Foster could not have asked for more from his day, as he first broke the two-minute barrier in the 200 IM, and then easily went under 4:20 in the 400 IM. Meanwhile, having his brother right with him made it a good day for the family.
Texas graduate Jeff Newkirk was the sole swimmer to go under 1:50 en route to a win in the 200 freestyle. Newkirk went through his four laps in 1:48.72, with Drew Kibler next in 1:50.15. Caspar Corbeau’s 1:01.77 handed him a victory in the 100 breaststroke while
Bryce Bohman won the 100 butterfly in 53.27 and the 100 backstroke in 56.58.
In Irvine…
Alexei Sancov paced three men under 1:50 in the 200 freestyle, his 1:48.46 holding up for the win. Sancov was followed by Jorge Iga (1:49.65) and Grant House (1:49.68). Evan Carlson (53.31) beat Zheng Wen Quah (53.65) for the title in the 100 butterfly.
