2020 Pac-12 Women’s Championships Day 4: Stanford Wins 4th Straight Title

The 2020 Pac-12 Women’s Championships continued on Saturday with the last finals session from Federal Way, Washington.

The session included the 200 backstroke, 100 freestyle, 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly as well as platform diving and the 400 free relay.

Stanford won the Pac-12 title for the fourth consecutive season, finishing ahead of Cal, USC and the rest of the field.

Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil pulled out of the 100 free, still dealing with an arm injury. She did not swim the final relay, either.

Pac-12 Women’s Championships: 1650 Free

Stanford’s dominance in the mile continued as Morgan Tankersley won the Pac-12 title in the 1650 free in 15:50.81.

Arizona State’s Emma Nordin (15:52.27) and Cierra Runge (15:53.51) were close behind to take second and third, respectively.

Arizona’s Kirsten Jacobsen finished fourth in 15:59.31, followed by Cal’s Sarah Dimeco (16:12.89), Arizona’s Ayumi Macias (16:14.05), Stanford’s Megan Byrnes (16:14.93) and Arizona State’s Caitlyn Wilson (16:23.19).

Pac-12 Women’s Championships: 200 Back

Stanford finished 1-2-3-7 to score major points in the 200 backstroke as the Cardinal close in on a title.

Erin Voss won the event in 1:51.37, followed by Lucie Nordmann (1:51.63) and Alex Crisera (1:52.21). Allie Szekely was seventh (1:54.12).

Utah’s Audrey Reimer was fourth in 1:52.51, followed by Cal seniors Keaton Blovad (1:52.93) and Courtney Mykkanen (1:53.89).

Arizona freshman Axana Merckx was eighth in 1:54.86.

USC went 1-2-4 in the 100 free as Laticia Transom won in 47.85, just ahead of teammate Marta Ciesla (48.02).

Tatum Wade finished fourth in 48.35, just behind Stanford’s Amalie Fackenthal (48.19).

Cal’s Abbey Weitzeil pulled out of the event before prelims, still bothered by her arm injury suffered earlier in the meet.

Cal’s Robin Neumann finished fifth in 48.43, followed by Stanford’s Anya Goeders (48.49), UCLA’s Kenisha Liu (48.57) and Cal’s Eloise Riley (48.76).

Brooke Forde dropped more than a second from her prelims time to overtake the field and win the 200 breast in 2:07.35.

Forde led a 1-2-3-7 finish for the Cardinal. Allie Raab finished second in 2:07.85, followed by Zoe Bartel (2:08.01).

USC went 4-5-6 with Isa Odgers (2:09.00), Maggie Aroesty (2:10.10) and Nicole Pavlopoulou (2:10.14).

Arizona State senior Silja Kansakoski finished eighth in 2:11.27.

Women’s 200 Butterfly

USC defending NCAA champion Louise Hansson dropped three seconds from her prelims time to win the 200 butterfly in 1:51.26.

Stanford’s Katie Drabot finished second in 1:52.11, well ahead of the rest of the field.

Cal’s Rachel Klinker took third in 1:53.81, followed by Arizona State’s Lindsay Looney (1:55.49), UCLA’s Amy Okada (1:55.93), Arizona State’s Jade Foelske (1:56.53) and Ruby Martin (1:58.18) and Stanford’s Allie Szekely (1:58.23).

Pac-12 Women’s Championships: Platform Diving

Stanford went 1-2 in platform diving with Mia Paulsen winning with 311.40 points and Daria Lenz taking second with 292.45.

USC took the next three spots with Savannah Stocker in third (290.20), followed by Naomi Gowlett (288.55) and Carly Souza (271.85).

Cal’s Briana Thai was sixth (258.85), ahead of USC’s Morenike Agubiade (236.80) and Arizona’s Jacqueline Purwins (217.80).
