2020 Mountain West Championships Day 1: San Diego State Breaks Conference Record in 200 Medley Relay

The 2020 Mountain West Championships kicked off at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center on Wednesday.

San Diego State took the early lead by winning the opening event, setting a Mountain West record in the 200 medley relay.

Mountain West Championships: 200 Medley Relay

San Diego State broke the Mountain West record in the 200 medley relay as Elliyana Ferrin, Klara Thormalm, Courtney Vincent and Alma Thormalm won in 1:36.30.

The previous Mountain West record was the same San Diego State quartet at last year’s conference championship meet, finishing in 1:36.76.

Nevada’s Josien Wijkhuijs, Donna Depolo, Liessa Cholodovskis and Coette Berkenfield finished second in 1:38.43.

UNLV’s Lindsay Swail, Skylar Moore, Katryna Afanasyeva and Caitlyn Schrieber finished third in 1:39.71.

1-Meter Diving

Nevada’s Isabel Vasquez won the 1-meter diving event with 315.15 points. She edged Colorado State’s Skylar Williams, who finished just two points behind at 313.15.

San Diego State’s Ximenia Lechuga Gonzalez was third at 309.15, followed by Fresno State’s Irina Nikolaeva (306.00), Nevada’s Jessie Nowotny (305.65), Nevada’s Linnea Sorensen (304.55), Wyoming’s Karla Contreras (296.65) and San Diego State’s Marie Yacopino (266.95).

 

Mountain West Championships: 800 Free Relay

San Diego State’s Mia Ryan, Peyton Wilson, Milena Karpisz and McKenna Meyer won the 800 free relay in 7:11.94.

Nevada’s Donna Depolo, Andressa Cholodovskis Lima, Wiktoria Samula and Caitlyn McHugh finished second in 7:15.49.

UNLV’s Julia Filippova, Kristina Schneider, Filio Raftopoulou and Carissa Armijo took third in 7:17.90.
