It was a night for familiar faces and streaks at the ACC Men’s Swimming Championships Friday. For the third straight year, Evgenii Somov and Coleman Stewart won their signature events. Ted Schubert made it two straight IM wins. Louisville rose to third in the team standings by winning four of six events.

ACC Men’s Swimming Championships, Greensboro Aquatic Center

100 butterfly

Nicolas Albiero topped Coleman Stewart in Part 1 of their battle. Though Albiero wasn’t as fast as the morning, he still clocked an A cut of 44.86 to hold off Stewart (44.92) by the slimmest of margins. Those two separated themselves from the pack, with NC State’s Nyls Korstanje third in 45.47, part of a troika of 45-mids, with Philip Manoff of Virginia Tech (45.60) and Noah Hensley of NC State (45.71).

400 medley relay

On a night where the Cardinals won the 100 fly and 100 breast and took second in the 100 back, it’s not a shock that they took control of the 200 medley relay. They made a mockery of it, winning in 3:02.80 with the team of Whyte, Somov, Albiero and Andrej Barna. Louisville, which entered as the fourth seed, broke the ACC Men’s Swimming Championships and Greensboro Aquatic Center pool record set by NC State in 2019 (3:03.26). Second was Florida State, thanks in part to Max McCusker’s stellar fly leg, with Virginia third in the second-fastest time in school history. Despite a 44.38 from Stewart, NC State was fourth.
