The prelims session of the 2019 TYR Pro Swim Series from Des Moines kicked off with a full slate of events.
The session began with the 100 free, followed by 100 breast, 50 back, 200 fly and 400 free.
Penny Oleksiak scratched the 100 free and Chase Kalisz pulled out of the meet, according to the updated psych sheets, but there was still plenty of fast races.
Cody Miller, Kathleen Baker, Michael Andrew and Hali Flickinger all earned top seeds heading into finals.
Women’s 100 Free
In Round 1 of the 100 free, 17-year-old Canadian Kayla Sanchez took the top spot in 54.87 ahead of Olivia Smoliga (55.09), who earned an Olympic trials cut.
Natalie Hinds took the third spot in 55.21, followed by Margo Geer (55.27) — both in trials cuts — and Larissa Oliveir (55.26).
Kendyl Stewart was sixth at 55.48, followed by Kelsi Dahlia (55.64) and Amanda Kendall (55.66), each in trials cuts.
Olympian Allison Schmitt took the ninth spot in 55.79 to earn a trials cut, along Olympians with Melanie Margalis (55.83), Lia Neal (56.03) as well as Gabby DeLoof (56.09) and Linnea Mack (56.21).

Bruno Correia was next (49.22), followed by Ryan Held (49.27), who earned a trials cut.
Jack Conger (49.50), Zane Grothe (49.85), Michael Chadwick (50.10), Jacob Pebley (50.14) and Caeleb Dressel (50.49) also earned trials cuts.

Women’s 100 Breast
The women’s 100 breast was packed with some of the sport’s stars, who took the top four spots.
Micah Sumrall took the top spot in 1:07.99, followed by Annie Lazor (1:08.08), Bethany Galat (1:08.17) and Melanie Margalis (1:08.94) — all in Olympic trials cuts.
Kathleen Baker also earned a trials cut in 1:10.19, taking the 10th spot.

Cody Miller, James Wilby and Michael Andrew all were within three tenths of each other in the 100 breast as Miller finished in 1:00.34, followed by Wilby (1:00.44) and Andrew (1:00.66).
Felipe Lima was fourth (1:00.72), followed by Andrew Wilson (1:00.76) as all U.S. swimmers in the final earned trials cuts. Nic Fink was seventh (1:01.09).
Will Licon (1:01.68) and Kevin Cordes (1:02.00) also earned trials cuts to reach the B final.

Hali Flickinger continued her dominance in the 200 fly, cruising to the top seed in 2:07.51. It was two seconds off of her seed time but four seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Athens Bulldogs teammate Megan Kingsley took the next spot in 2:11.81, also an Olympic trials cut.
While trials cuts have been prevalent in every event, those were the only two so far in the 200 fly.

The longest men’s race of the day was one of the closest as Zane Grothe took the top seed in the 400 free. He finished in 3:52.75, ending Mitch D’Arrigo (3:52.87).
