2019 Speedo Sectionals Federal Way Day 4: Bellevue, Hillsboro Win

The final night of the 2019 Speedo Sectional in Federal Way, Washington, saw some fast swims and some big team performances.

Bellevue won the combined team standings with 2,220 points to finish ahead of the Denver Hilltoppers (1,590.5) and Seattle Metropolitan (1,539).

Hillsboro won the men’s meet with 836 points, followed by Denver (744), Seattle Metropolitan (679), Bellevue (647) and Charger Aquatics (622).

Bellevue won the women’s meet with 1,583. Tualatin Hills was second with 914.5, followed by Seattle Metropolitan (860), Denver (846.5) and Fort Collins Area (692).

Women’s 200 IM

Pro Swimming’s Janelle Rudolph hung on to win the 200 IM to open the final night, swimming a 1:58.43. The 16-year-old held off Missoula’s Katharine Berkoff (1:59.83), who had turned in a stellar meet.

Bellevue’s Samantha Baron finished third (2:00.59), followed by Fort Collins Area’s Lucerne Bell (2:02.30), Seattle’s Jaime Chen (2:02.77), Fort Collins Area’s Caraline Baker (2:03.12), Amy Tang (2:03.42) and Eleanor Jew (2:05.02).

Men’s 200 IM

Seattle Metropolitan’s Tyler Lu coasted to victory in the men’s 200 IM, finishing in 1:45.58. The 16-year-old finished a second and a half ahead of the field.

Charger Aquatics’ Jack Hoagland finished second in 1:47.04, barely holding off Tualatin Hills’ Caspar Corbeau (1:47.16), Billings’ Ethan Harder (1:47.58) and Denver’s William Goodwin (1:47.61).

Hillsboro’s Ethan Heasley finished sixth (1:48.13), followed by Ethan Dang (1:48.91) and Timothy Gallagher (1:50.01).

Bellevue’s Sarah Dimeco cruised to victory in the women’s 1650 free with a swim of 16:22.92.

Charger’s Allison Bernier was second (16:38.26), followed dub Seattle’s Taylor Kabacy (16:57.62) and Bellevue’s Nathlaie Valdman (16:58.62).

Men’s 1650 Free

Hillsboro’s Ethan Heasley swam his second event in a row, and after finishing sixth in the 200 IM, cruised to victory in the men’s 1650 with a swim of 15:03.24.

Teammate Luke Thornbrue finished second in 15:18.69 ahead of a Billings Aquatic duo, Peter Thompson (15:19.98) and Jack Leuthold (15:22.11).

Women’s 50 Free

Pro Swimming’s Janelle Rudolph made it 2-for-2 on the evening winning the 50 free in 22.49 to close the women’s individual events for the meet.

Kaitlyn Dobler was second (22.51), followed by Gabrielle Dang (22.99).

Katharine Berkoff was fourth (23.01), followed by Sefilina Maile (23.08), Amy Tang (23.11), Elizabeth Cook (23.23) and Catharine Russo (23.17).

Men’s 50 Free

Tualatin Hills’ Caspar Corbeau closed the men’s individual portion of the meet by becoming the only man to break 20 seconds in the 50 free.

Corbeau won the even tin 19.85 to finish ahead of Bellevue’s Matthew King (20.18) as well as Ethan Dang (20.43).

Utah Valley’s Cameron Green was fourth (20.58), followed by Charger’s Keelan Hart (20.62) and Maxwell Hawton (20.63), Aquawolves’ Brendan Ackerman (20.85) and Poulsbo Piranha’s Timothy Gallagher (21.00).

Denver’s Sydney Silver, Emma Weber, Holley Dennis and Anna Shaw closed the women’s meet by winning the 400 medley relay in 3:40.07.

Bellevue finished second (3:42.43), followed by Tualatin Hills (3:42.45).
