2019 Speedo Sectional Federal Way Day 2: Katharine Berkhoff Wins Twice

The 2019 Speedo Sectional in Federal Way continued on Friday with Day two of the meet.

The 200 free, 400 IM, 100 back and 400 free relay comprised the evening as the meet reached its halfway point.

Women’s 200 Free

Missoula Aquatic’s Katharine Berkoff started the session off with a big swim to win the 200 free.

Berkoff won the event in 1:46.14 to hold off Pro Swimming’s Janelle Rudolph (1:46.91).

Lobo’s Sefilina Maile finished third (1:46.92), followed by Tualatin Hills’ Tia Lindsay (1:47.36), Bellevue’s Grace Felner (1:47.76) and Sarah Dimeco (1:48.43) and Tualatin Hills’ Elizabeth Cook (1:49.90) and Lily Gardner (1:52.00).

Men’s 200 Free

Hillsboro’s Luke Thornbrue earned a close victory in the men’s 200 free, winning in 1:35.58 to hold off Iolani’s Aukai Lileikis (1:35.68).

Caspar Corbeau finished third (1:35.85), followed by Trenton Martinez (1:37.33), Jack Hoagland (1:37.37), Keelan Hart (1;38.46), Kevin Jackson (1:39.53) and Ethan Harder (1:39.55).

Women’s 400 IM

Bellevue’s Sarah Dimeco, swimming in her second event in a row, claimed victory in the women’s 400 IM. She won the race in 4:12.10 to hold off Fort Collins Area’s Lucerne Bell (4:12.42).

Bellevue’s Samantha Baron finished third (4:18.21), followed by Caraline Baker (4:20.01) Allison Bernier (4:22.20), Milla Ruthven (4:22.72), Emily Rinker (4:22.84) and Yulia Groysman (4:25.56).

Men’s 400 IM

Hillsboro’s Ethan Heasley crushed the field to win the men’s 400 IM by four seconds.

Heasley finished in 3:44.25 to win.

Seattle’s Tyler Lu was second in 3:48.14, followed by William Goodwin (3:49.13).

Jack Hoagland, swimming in his second consecutive event, finished fourth (3:52.40), followed by Benjamin Miller (3:53.24), Kevin Keil (3:54.42) and Zachary Bartel (3:57.70).

Women’s 100 Back

Katharine Berkoff made it 2-for-2 on Friday by winning the 100 back in 50.99.

Amy Tang finished second in 53.55, followed by Sefilina Maile (54.28) and Sydney Silver (54.68).

Isabella Wallace was fifth (55.05), ahead of Anneliese Husaby (55.51), Elli Straume (55.97) and Lillianna Brooks (56.11).

Men’s 100 Back

Just minutes after finishing second in the 400 IM, Tyler Lu earned a narrow victory in the 100 back to close the session.

Lu won the race in 47.46 to hold off Ethan Harder (47.62).

James Richardson was third (47.83), followed by Timothy Gallagher (48.43), Emmett Wayte (49.47), Maxwell Hawton (49.61) Wilder Kruse (49.86) and Neirton Oliviera (49.96).
