The eighth and final morning of the 2019 FINA World Championships witnessed the men’s and women’s 400 IM and the men’s and women’s 400 medley relays.
Throughout the entirety of the prelims session, Swimming World photographer Becca Wyant was on deck capturing the action and excitement, while Swimming World’s Craig Lord, John Lohn, Liz Byrnes and Andy Ross reported on the action from Gwangju, South Korea.

Japan’s Daiya Seto claimed the men’s 400 IM top seed and set himself up for a men’s IM sweep. Surprisingly, defending World Champion, Chase Kalisz, did not quzlify for the final of the men’s 400 IM and that mset Seto up for a clean run at the title.
Katinka Hosszu of Hungary set herself up for a potential fourth straight title in the women’s 400 IM with a top seed in the preliminary heats.
The United States claimed the top seed in the women’s 400 medley relay, while Russia claimed the top seed going into the final of the men’s race. Australia sits second going into the wome’ns race, while the United States sits second going into the men’s race. Most of the teams will swap out some of their relay members to up their firepower for the final session of the meet.
