2019 ACC Men’s Swimming Championships Day 3 Finals: NC State Pulling Ahead
During the first full finals session of the ACC Men’s Swimming Championships, NC State looked to remain the dominant team, with Wolfpack swimmers recording the top qualifying time in all three events contested. NC State is bidding for its fifth straight conference title this week in Greensboro, N.C.
After the second day of competition, NC State leads with 496.5 points, while Louisville is in second with 404.

NC State’s Eric Knowles dropped a second from his prelims time to win the 500 free in 4:12.13.
It was an NCAA automatic qualifying time and held off Virginia senior Brendan Casey (4:12.63).
Virginia Tech sophomore Lane Stone finished third (4:13.10), followed by Louisville senior Marcelo Acosta (4:14.94), NC State junior John McIntyre (4:15.62), Notre Dame’s Zachary Yeadon (4:16.25), NC State sophomore Gil Kiesler (4:18.18) and Virginia senior Samuel Magnan (4:20.54).

Georgia Tech sophomore Caio Pumputis surged to victory in the 200 IM. He finished in 1:41.28, an NCAA automatic cut.
He dropped more than two seconds off of his prelim time to hold off NC State senior Andreas Vazaios, who finished just two hundredths behind him in 1:41.30.
Virginia Tech’s Norbert Szabo finished third (1:43.17), followed by Louisville sophomore Daniel Sos (1:43.63).
Another Virginia Tech swimmer, sophomore Samuel Tornqvist took fifth (1:44.97), followed by a trio of Virginia Cavaliers — junior Frede Schubert (1:44.51), senior Zachary Fong (1:44.57) and senior Bryce Keblish (1:44.98).

Florida State senior William Pisani head on for the narrow victory, finishing in 19.21.
Louisville junior Andrej Barna was second in 19.27.
NC State senior Justin Ress took third in 19.29, followed by freshman teammate Nyls Kornstanje (19.37).
Pitt sophomore Blaise Vera took fifth (19.38), followed by NC State sophomore Giovanni Izzy (19.45) and senior Cobe Garcia (19.47), who tied for seventh with Virginia Tech senior Ian Ho (19.47).

Florida State sprinted very near an ACC meet record to win the 200 free relay, closing Thursday’s session.
Williams Pisani, Jakub Ksiazek, Emir Muratovic and Kanoa Kaleoaloha finished in 1:15.81 for the Seminoles.
NC State’s Nyls Korstanje, Justin Ress, Jacob Molacek and Coleman Stewart took second in 1:16.00.
Louisville also reached an NCAA automatic qualifying time (1:17.15).
