2018 Asian Games Day 4 Prelims: China’s Yan Zibei, Japan’s Mixed Medley Set Records
The 2018 Asian Games continued with the Day 4 preliminaries from Indonesia.
Some of the biggest names in swimming put together some impressive performances, including Asian Games records from China’s Yan Zibei and Japan’s mixed medley relay.

Joseph Schooling looked strong as a new professional, cruising to the top seed in the men’s 100 butterfly to open the day’s events.
Schooling, from Singapore, finished with the top spot in 52.31.
Japan’s Yuki Kobori took the second seed at 52.47, followed by China’s Zhuhao Li (52.50), Singapore’s Zheng Wen Quah (52.76), Kazakhstan’s Adilbek Mussin (52.99), Korea’s Gyucheol Chang (53.20), Indonesia’s Glenn Victor Sutanto (52.39) and Japan’s Nao Horomura (53.30).

Women’s 200 Free
Japan’s Chihiro Igarashi swam to a comfortable first seed in the women’s 200 free, earning the top spot by more than a second.
She clocked a 2:00.21 to hold the top seed heading into finals.
China’s Junxuan Yang (2:02.30) and Bingjie Li (2:01.43) took the second and third seeds, respectively.
Hong Kong’s Camille Cheng was fourth (2:01.68), followed by Japan’s Yui Ohashi (2:02.41), Thailand’s Natthanan Junkrajang (2:02.49), Jasmine Alkhaldi (2:02.53) of the Philippines and Kornkarnjana Sapianchai (2:02.55).

Men’s 100 Breast
The session got even faster in the 100 breast as China’s Yan Zibei broke the Asian Games record to take the top seed in 59.91.
Kazakhstan’s Dmitriy Balandin was a close second in 1:00.07, which could set up a pretty epic final.
China’s Qin Haiyang took the third seed in 1:00.78, followed by Japan’s Ippei Watanabe (1:00.93), Uzbekistan’s Vladislav Mustafin (1:01.04), Korea’s Jaekwon Moon (1:01.17), Japan’s Yasuhrio Koseki (1:01.35) and Singapore’s Chien Khoo (1:02.00).
Women’s 200 Fly
Japan’s Suzuka Hasegawa kept the speed going in the 200 fly, taking the top seed in 2:09.95.
China’s Zhang Yufei followed, nearly a second behind, in 2:10.83.
Japan’s Sachi Mochica took the third seed in 2:11.87, followed by Vietnam’s Thi My Thao Ie (2:12.14), Korea’s Sehyeon An (2:12.22), Singapore’s Jing Wen Quah (2:13.35), Indonesia’s Adinda Larasti Dewi (2:14.10) and China’s Yu Liyan (2:14.56).

Men’s 400 IM
Japan continued its strong performances in the individual medley events, taking the top two seeds in the 400 IM — just one hundredth of a second apart.
Daiya Seto took the top seed at 4:16.16, edging compatriot Kosuke Hagino (4:16.17), setting up a Japanese duel in the final.
China’s Wang Shun (4:18.67) and Wang Yizhe (4:21.55) took the third and fourth seeds, respectively.
Korea’s Minsuk Kim was fifth (4:21.95), followed by Chinese Taipei’s Chengchi Cho (4:23.01), Korea’s Jaegu Joo (4:23.86) and Vietnam’s Huu Nguyen (4:27.18).

Women’s 100 Back
It was another 1-2 finish for Japan to close out the individual prelims for the day, this time in the women’s 100 back.
Anna Konishi took the top seed in 1:00.44, and keeping with the theme of being extremely close, Natsumi Sakai was second in 1:00.53, setting up yet another showdown in the finals.
China’s Chen Jie took the third seed in 1:00.84, followed by Hong Kong’s Hoi Shun Au (1:01.31), Toto Wong (1:01.92), China’s Fu Yuanhui (1:02.41), Korea’s Youngyeon Shin (1:02.57) and Dasol Im (1:02.58).

Men’s 4×100 Free Relay
China’s Hou Yujie, Qian Zhiyong, Ma Bianchi and Ji Xinjie got off to a fast start and coasted to the top seed in the 400 free relay.
Japan was second in 3:18.25, followed by Singapore (3:20.16), Korea (3:21.16) and Chinese Taipei (3:21.89).

Mixed 4×100 Medley Relay
The session ended with some serious speed as Japan broke the Asian Games record for fastest mixed 400 medley relay.
Masaki Kaneko, Ippei Watanabe, Rikako Ikee and Mayuka Yamamoto combined to take the top seed in 3:38.89.
China was second in 3:53.29, followed by Korea (3:55.46), Indonesia (3:55.56) and Hong Kong (3:56.62).
