2017 arena Pro Series Indy: Hannis, Meili Tie for 100 Breast Top Seed

Day three prelims of the 2017 arena Pro Series in Indy were highlighted by a tie for the first place seed in the women’s 100 breast. Fellow 2016 U.S. Olympians Molly Hannis and Katie Meili posted matching times of 1:06.91 to return as the top seeds for tonight’s ‘A’ final.

Other top swims include Michael Andrew’s 200 IM, Li Zhuhao’s 200 fly, and more!

Women’s 200 Fly

Hali Flickinger picked up the top seed in the women’s 200 fly with a top qualifying time of 2:09.93. That sits just behind her 2017 best of 2:08.77 from the Austin stop of the 2017 arena Pro Swim Series.

Taylor Pike turned in a 2:11.90 for the second place seed, while NCAP’s Cassidy Bayer posted a 2:!2..06 for third.

Hannah Saiz qualified fourth overall with a 2:13.10, just ahead of Cardinal’s Kelsi Worrell and her time of 2:13.41.

Great Britain’s Emily Large (2:13.61), Katerine Savard (2:13.66), and Japan’s Aya Takano (2:14.10) rounded out the top eight.

Men’s 200 Fly

Li Zhuhao of China posted the top time of the morning in the men’s 200 fly with a 1:58.53. Li’s time sits within the top 20 of the world rankings for 2017.

Japan’s Daiya Seto qualified second with a time of 1:58.71, followed by the British duo of James Guy (1:59.04) and Max Litchfield (1:59.97).

Andrew Abruzzo took fifth in prelims with a qualifying time of 2:00.65, while Marcos Lavado posted a 2:0.94 for sixth.

italy’s Giacomo Carini and Argentina’s Nicolas de Ferrari finished seventh and eighth in prelims with times of 2:00.98 and 2:01.88.

Women’s 100 Breast

Fellow U.S. Olympians Molly Hannis and Katie Meili delivered matching top times in the women’s 100 breast. Meili led at the 50 meter turn with a 31.39 split over Hannis’ 32.12, but Hannis pulled even in the second 50 meters. The two stopped the clock at a 1:06.91 to return as the top seeds.

Chloe Tutton of Great Britain grabbed the third place seed with a time of 1:08.49, followed by Club Wolverine’s Miranda Tucker and her time of 1:08.65.

New York Athletic Club’s Breeja Larson touched fifth overall in prelims with a 1:08.94, just ahead of Great Britain’s Sarah Vasey’s 1:09.00.

Iceland’s Hrafnhildur Luthersdottir and Rachel Nicol took seventh and eighth with times of 1:09.13 and 1:09.21 respectively.

Men’s 100 Breast

Adam Peaty of Great Britain snuck beneath the one minute mark in prelims of the men’s 100 breast, posting a 59.99 to return as the top qualifier. Peaty’s top time for 2017 currently sits at a 58.94 from the Euro Meet in Luxembourg.

Kevin Cordes, swimming unattached, turned in a 1:00.91 for second, followed closely by Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi and his time of 1:00.95.

Badger Swim Club’s Cody Miller posted a 1:01.06 for fourth, just ahead of Athens Bulldog’s Nic Fink’s 1:01.20.

Felipe Lima (1:01.29), Miguel de Lara Ojeda (1:01.40), and Race Pace Club’s Michael Andrew (1:01.63) return as sixth through eighth.

Women’s 100 Back

Ali Deloof of Club Wolverine grabbed the top seed in prelims of the women’s 100 back with a time of 1:00.70. Deloof’s time sits within the top ten world rankings for 2017.

Kira Toussaint touched second overall in prelims with a qualifying time of 1:00.94, while Great Britain’s Jessica Fullalove qualified third with a time of 1:01.28.

Dominique Bouchard posted a 1:01.31 to qualify fourth, just ahead of Kayla Sanchez’s 1:01.32.

Italy’s Federica Pellegrini (1:01.38), Hilary Caldwell (1:01.63), and Danielle Hanus (1:01.71) qualified sixth through eighth.

Men’s 100 Back

The men’s 100 back was highlighted by a trio of 54-second swims. Xu Jiayu of China turned in the top time at a 54.29, followed by Kentucky’s Grigory Tarasevich and his time of 54.50. The two move to sixth and seventh, respectively, in the world rankings for 2017.

Jacob Pebley of Cal grabbed the third place seed with a time of 54.79, just off his 2017 best of 54.05.

Gustav Hokfelt, swimming unattached, posted a 55.29 for the fourth place seed, followed by Great Britain’s Chris Walker-Hebborn’s 55.37.

New York Athletic Club’s Arkady Vyatchanin (55.49), Ryosuke Irie (55.59), and Daniel Carr (55.63) rounded out the top eight qualifiers.

Women’s 200 IM

Sarah Darcel picked up the top seed in the women’s 200 IM by a narrow margin of Melanie Margalis. Darcel stopped the clock at a 2:15.26 in heat 11, while Margalis delivered a 2:15.34 from heat 10.

Chian’s Ye Shiwen grabbed the third place seed with a 2:15.51, followed by Club Wolverine’s Miranda Tucker and her time of 2:16.04.

Katie Meili picked up the fifth place seed with a 2:16.11, just ahead of Great Britain’s Abbie Wood’s 2:16.34.

Kayla Sanchez and Great Britain’s Hannah Miley qualified seventh and eighth with times of 2:16.74 and 2:16.82.

Men’s 200 IM

Michael Andrew of Race Pace Club posted the top time of the morning in the men’s 200 IM, stopping the clock at a 2:01.92. Andre’s time sits just shy of his 2017 best of 2:01.63 from the Austin stop of the 2017 arena Pro Series.

Great Britain’s Max Litchfield picked up the second place seed with a time of 2:02.60, followed by Cal’s Josh Prenot and his time of 2:03.29.

Duncan Scott of Great Britain turned in a 2:03.42, good for the fourth place seed, while Uvis Kalnins grabbed fifth with a 2:04.10.

Japan’s Daiya Seto (2:04.20), Etay Gurevich (2:04.73), and Athens Bulldogs’ Nic Fink (2:04.87) also qualified for the ‘A’ final.

Women’s 800 Free (slow heats)

Ashley Twichell posted the fastest time in the first set of heats of the 800 free. Twichell stopped the clock at a time of 8:36.17, just a few seconds short of her 2017 best of 8:30.19 from the Austin stop.

Mary-Sophie Harvey turned in a time of 8:47.11, just ahead of Nicole Oliva’s 8:56.74.

Men’s 1500 Free (slow heats)

Michael Brinegar delivered the top time of the morning in the men’s 1500 free with a time of 15:25.70.

Badger Swim Club’s Zane Grothe posted a 15:37.52 to finish second overall in prelims, while Alexander Katelnikoff took third in prelims with a 15:41.58.
