Women’s 100 Freestyle
Jeanette Ottesen of Denmark sprinted to the top of the 100 free in 51.93. A half second behind was Menguhi Zhu of China in 52.57. Rounding out the podium was Katinka Hosszu (53.07).
A trio of the hone country’s swimmers followed. Meichen Sun (53.33), Duo Shen (53.40), and Yi Tang (53.66) finished fourth through sixth.
Junxuan Yang (54.10) and Tingru Han (54.30) completed the top eight.
Men’s 200 Freestyle
South Africa’s Myles Brown got his hand to the wall first, winning the event in 1:43.60. Jiwen Cao (1:44.24) finished second, just ahead of Belgium’s Pieter Timmers in 1:44.53.
Bobby Hurley (1:44.71) of Australia was fourth. Chinese swimmers Keyuan Shang (1:46.17), Zhiyong Qian (1:46.36), Yongqin Lin (1:46.68), and Yuxin Wang (1:47.42) completed the final.
Women’s 50 Breaststroke
The breaststroke events continue to be deep on the World Cup circuit. Jamaican Alia Atkinson found her way to the top of the podium at this meet with a 29.15. Russia’s Yulia Efimova (29.66) secured silver while American Katie Meili also dipped under 30 (29.92).
Her teammate Breeja Larson (30.62) was fourth ahead of China’s Jinglin Shi (30.95) and Rie Kaneto (31.19) of Japan. Jiaying Zhang (31.35) and Minjie Sun (31.87) finished seventh and eighth.
Men’s 100 Breaststroke
Russia’s Vladimir Morozov shot to the top of the podium in 56.33. Brazil’s Felipe Lima secured silver in 56.86. Zibel Yan (57.70) of China was third. His teammates Fellian Mao and Xiang Li tied for fourth in 58.33. Zhihao Zhang was sixth (58.65). Germany’s Marco Koch (58.89) and the USA’s Josh Prenot (59.06) completed the final.
Men’s 100 Butterfly
Chad Le Clos was the only swimmer under 50 tonight. The South African stopped the clock in 49.35. Japan’s Takeshi Kawamoto finished in 50.55, just faster then Belarus’ Pavel Sankovich (50.64).
Chinese duo Qibin Zhang (51.43) and Zhuhao Li (51.79) finished back to back. Peng Wang (52.00) was sixth. Guangyuan Li (52.11) and Spain’s Miguel Ortiz-Canvate (52.13) wrapped up the final.
Women’s 100 Backstroke
Katinka Hosszu returned the the podium, this time on top. The Hungarian finished in 56.56. Ukraine’s Daryna Zevina (57.35) and China’s Jie Chen (57.61) earned silver and bronze.
Haihua Cheng (57.89), Xueer Wang (58.20), Hulyl Xu (59.78), Chaonan Zhu (1:00.16), and Lihang Jian (1:00.56) were fourth through eighth.
Men’s 50 Backstroke
In his second podium finish of the night, Pavel Sankovich struck gold in 23.18. China’s Jiayu Xu (23.31) earned silver and Bobby Hurley of Australia (23.39) finished third.
Japan’s Takeshi Kawamoto (23.52) finished ahead of a Russian pair tied for fifth in 23.81: Stanislav Donetc and Vladimir Morozov. Miguel Ortiz-Canavate (24.00) and Peng Wang (24.22) completed the final.
Women’s 200 Butterfly
Siyu Liu edged Siqi Wang 2:05.44 to 2:05.49 to win the event. Madeline Groves stopped the clock in 2:06.68 for third, just faster than Yufei Zhang in 2:06.74.
Zsuzsanna Jakabos (2:07.06), Jing Liu (2:07.24), Shijia Wang (2:09.41) and Yan Wang (2:13.08) were fifth through eighth.
Men’s 200 IM
China’s Shun Wang (1:51.63) was the winner, four tenths ahead of Philip Heintz of Germany in 1:52.08. American Josh Prenot secured third in 1:53.54.
Daiya Seto (1:54.51) and Huanan Ling (1:56.74) followed. Marco Koch (1:58.88), Tiansheng Jiang (1:59.41) and Ren-Hau Wen (1:59.46) also swam in tonight’s final.
Women’s 400 Freestyle
Katinka Hosszu claimed a second event today, edging Jie Dong and Yawen Hou for gold. Hosszu posted a 4:01.65 while the Chinese swam times of 4:01.80 and 4:02.06.
Bingjie Li (4:03.52) and Yi Fang (4:04.62) were fourth ad fifth. Yuhan Zhang (4:05.79), Yanhan Al (4:09.16) and Zeying Lv (4:10.14) placed sixth through eighth.
Men’s 50 Freestyle
Vlad Morozov won his second event of the night in 21.06. Great Britain’s Benjamin Proud (21.33) followed and Japan’s Katsumi Nakamura (21.54) placed third.
Bradley Tandy (21.55), Jianbin He (21.82), Miguel Ortiz-Canavate (21.88), Shinri Shioura (21.91), Xianjian Zhao (22.00) also swam in finals.
Women’s 200 Breaststroke
Rie Kaneto of Japan won the event in resounding fashion in 2:15.91. Yulia Efimova secured her second silver in 2:19.46 while American Breeja Larson (2:22.67) was third.
Chinese duo Jiangyao Yu (2:23.37) and Xinyu Zhang (2:24.95) were fourth and fifth. Man-Wen Lio (2:28.42), Qinghua Wu (2:29.15) and Leiju Zhu (2:33.38) also competed in the final.
Women’s 100 IM
Katinka Hosszu got gold again, with a 58.10. Kate Meili (59.50) and Alia Atkinson (59.60) were also under a minute.
Sishi Zhang (1:00.96) and Jianqi Zhang (1:01.00) were fourth and fifth. Yi Tang (1:02.56), Tingru Han (1:02.61) and Kin Lok Chan (1:02.83) rounded out the heat.
Men’s 200 Backstroke
Xu Jiayu improved from silver in the 50 back to gold in the 200 as he led wire-to-wire. The Chinese Olympic silver medalist touched in 1:51.50. Bobby Hurley was second in 1:35.16, with Daiya Seto rounding out the podium in 1:54.51.
Omar Pinzon was in second for much of the race but fell off the pace the final 50. He ended up fourth in 1:55.48, ahead of Malcolm Low (2:01.64), Yu Han (2:07.87), Yu Pengcheng (2:10.80) and Shao Guan Hua (2:11.98).
Women’s 50 Butterfly
Jeanette Ottesen captured her second victory of the evening with a 25.16 triumph in the 50 fly. Lu Ying was right there in contention but ended up falling to second in 25.33. Katinka Hosszu earned yet another podium finish in taking third in 25.98.
Alia Atkinson finished fourth in 26.32, and Madeline Groves came in next at 26.48. Rounding out the final were Yang Junxuan (26.55), Natalia Lovtcova (26.71) and Zhang Sishi (27.12).
Men’s 1500 Freestyle
China’s Qiu Zhao cruised to a victory in the men’s mile, clocking in at 14:35.45. South Africa’s Myles Brown ended up edging out Germany’s Poul Zellman for second, 14:44.88 to 14:45.80.
Taiwan’s Cho Cheng-Chi also got under 15:00 as he finished fourth in 14:57.70. Yang Jintong (15:03.12), Huang Guo-Ting (15:12.85), Yang Chen (15:41.49) and Zhao Yifan (15:43.29) completed the top eight.
Women’s 400 IM
Katinka Hosszu picked up her third win of the day when she led a Hungarian 1-2 in her signature event. Hosszu cruised to first and touched in 4:33.60, and Zsuzsanna Jakobos got second in 4:38.13. China’s Lei Lei came in third at 4:41.91.
Chinese swimmers completed the top eight with Li Bingjie (4:42.11), Chen Yejie (4:43.28), Wu Yan (4:49.16), Gong Yixin (4:57.92) and Liu Yiwen (5:10.87).
Mixed 4×50 Freestyle Relay
China ended the meet with a big relay win as Lin Yongqing, Yu Hexin, Li Huang and Zhu Menghui combined to clock 1:31.62. Russia got second in 1:33.03 with Stanislav Donets, Vlad Morozov, Natalia Lovtcova and Yulia Efimova, and a Chinese club squad (Gao Weihong, Li Liuyixin, Wu Chengying and Ling Huanan) grabbed third in 1:34.40.
Hong Kong finished fourth, and four Chinese club squads finished fifth through eighth.
