2015 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships: Live Results – Results

MEN’S 100 FREE

Felipe Souza of Brazil topped the qualifiers list during prelims of the men’s 100-meter free with a final time of 49.64. Souza added slightly to his seed time of 49.16, a time not too far off of Caeleb Dressel’s championship meet record of 48.97 from 2013.

Souza’s teammate Pedro Spajari finished second overall in prelims posting a qualifying time of 49.90 making him the only other athlete to swim below the 50-second mark.

Russia’s Vladislav Kozlov tied with Australia’s Vincent Dai for the third place seed. Kozlov posted a time of 50.02 from heat eight, scraping .05 seconds off his seed time of 50.07, while Dai’s 50.02 came from heat nine.

Alessandro Miressi of Italy took the fifth place seed with a time of 50.06, while teammate Alessandro Bori finished sixth in prelims with a time of 50.10.

Romania’s Robert Glinta turned in a time of 50.18 to grab the seventh place seed, and Australia’s Kyle Chalmers posted a time of 50.20 to grab eighth.

USA’s Maxime Rooney (50.24), Serbia’s Andrej Barna (50.30), Canada’s Markus Thormeyer (50.31), Mexico’s Jorge Iga (50.53), Egypt’s Mohamed Samy (50.59), Russia’s Aleksei Brianskii (50.63), Canada’s Javier Acevedo (50.71), and USA’s Ryan Hoffer (50.76) complete the top sixteen.

WOMEN’S 100 FLY

Cassidy Bayer of the USA shot to the top of the qualifying list for the women’s 100-meter fly with a time of 58.87 during prelims of day five. Bayer succeeded in dropping time from her seed time of 59.00 to put her in a good position to challenge the championship meet record of 58.34 set by Svetlana Chimrova in 2013.

Rikako Ikee of Japan and Lauren Case of the USA battled it out in heat six, finishing .32 seconds apart. Ikee got to the wall first with a time of 59.08 to grab the second place seed, while Case’s time of 59.40 earned her the third place seed for tonight’s semi-finals.

Australia’s Lucia Lassman grabbed fourth overall in prelims with a time of 59.54, also from heat six.

Canada’s Penny Oleksiak turned in a time of 59.80 to grab the fifth place seed. She was followed closely to the wall by Aurora Petronio of Italy who touched with a time of 59.87 from the same heat.

Australia’s Gemma Cooley took seventh overall with a time of 59.94, while Hungary’s Sonja Szokol rounded out the top eight with a time of 1:00.14.

Russia’s Polina Egorova (1:00.23), Spain’s Carmen Balbuena (1:00.32), Slovakia’s Barbora Misendova (1:00.41), Hungary’s Nikolett Federics (1:00.49), Italy’s Ilaria Cusinato (1:00.51), Great Britain’s Laura Stephens (1:00.52), China’s Wang Jingzhuo (1:00.58), and Russia’s Alexandra Chesnokova (1:00.71) round out the top sixteen qualifiers for tonight’s semi-finals.

MEN’S 400 IM 

Sean Grieshop of the USA blazed to first in prelims of the men’s 400-meter IM during day five prelims of the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships with a final time of 4:18.19. Grieshop added slightly to his seed time of 4:17.02.

Spain’s Hugo Gonzalez finished second overall with a time of 4:21.12, shaving 1.11 seconds off his seed time of 4:22.23.

Brandonn Almeida of Brazil and Nikolai Sokolov of Russia battled for the third place seed in heat five, finishing .08 seconds apart. Almeida got to the wall first posting a time of 4:22.67 to claim the third place seed, while Sokolov took fourth with a time of 4:22.75.

Charlie Swanson of the USA grabbed a close fifth in prelims with a final time of 4:22.77 from heat four.

Daniel Sos of Hungary turned in a finishing time of 4:22.98 for the sixth place seed.

China’s Wang Zhou posted a time of 4:24.25 to grab the seventh place seed from heat three, while Portugal’s Joao Vital was eighth with a time of 4:25.23 from the same heat.

WOMEN’S 50 FREE

Russia went 1-2 in prelims of the women’s 50 free during day five of the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships. Mariia Kameneva turned in a qualifying time of 25.43 to grab the top seed for semi-finals from heat eight. Teammate Daria Ustinova grabbed the second place seed when she turned in a time of 25.48 from heat seven.

Shayna Jack of Australia rounded out the top three qualifiers with a time of 25.54, also from heat seven.

Japan’s Rikako Ikee and China’s Tang Yuting kept it close in heat six, finishing .06 seconds apart. Ikee claimed the fourth place seed with a time of 25.68, while Yuting finished fifth overall with a time of 25.74.

Lauren Pitzer of the USA finished sixth overall in prelims with a time of 25.79 from heat eight.

Australia’s Lucy Elizabeth McJannett was a close seventh from the same heat with a time of 25.84.

Ashley Volpenhein of the USA grabbed eighth overall with a time of 25.97.

Hungary’s Flora Molnar (25.99), Greece’s Iliana Charikleia Oikonomou (26.03), Canada’s Penny Oleksiak (26.05), New Zealand’s Gabrielle Fa’Amausili (26.07), Canada’s Rebecca Smith (26.10), Greece’s Vasiliki Stavroula Baka (26.20), Slovakia’s Janja Segel (26.28), and Brazil’s Maria Paula Heitmann (26.34) complete the top sixteen.

MEN’S 50 BREAST

Nikola Obrovac of Croatia narrowly grabbed first in the men’s 50-meter breast during prelims of day five at the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships with a time of 28.11.

Lithuania’s Andrius Sidlauskas was a close second with a qualifying time of 28.12 from heat seven.

Anton Chupkov of Russia grabbed the third place seed with a time of 28.19, also from heat seven.

Italy’s Nicolo Martinenghi posted a time of 28.22 from heat six to grab the fourth place seed.

Michael Andrew of the USA finished fifth overall in prelims with a time of 28.28 from heat five. Shen Hao of China finished close behind Andrew with a time of 28.45 from the same heat.

Turkey’s Huseyin Emre Sakci grabbed the seventh place seed with a time of 28.49, while Great Britain’s Charlie Attwood was eighth overall with a time of 28.52.

The USA’s Reece Whitley (28.62), Belarus’ Anton Prakopau (28.78), Belgium’s Basten Caerts (28.83), China’s Lin Yunsong (28.83), Australia’s Matthew Wilson (28.87) and Grayson Bell (28.98), Russia’s Egor Suchkov (29.02), and Japan’s Ippei Miyamoto (29.17) complete the top sixteen qualifiers for tonight’s semi-finals.

WOMEN’S 400 FREE RELAY

The women’s 400-meter free relay of Kenisha Liu (55.82), Beata Nelson (56.20), Samantha Shelton (55.93) and Lauren Pitzer (54.99) from the USA grabbed first in prelims of day five with a sizzling time of 3:42.94, putting the team in a good position to challenge the championship meet record of 3:41.40 set by Russia in 2013.

Russia’s relay of Daria Ustinova (55.87), Daria Mullakaeva (55.67), Olesia Cherniatina (56.56) and Vasilissa Buinaia (56.44) claimed second with a time of 3:44.54.

Third went to Australia’s team of Shayna Jack (55.24), Lucy Elizabeth McJannett (56.46), Elyse Woods (56.58) and Tamsin Cook (56.68) who posted a combined time of 3:44.96 from heat one.

Canada’s Penny Oleksiak (57.21), Rebecca Smith (56.09), Mary-Sophie Harvey (56.84) and Taylor Ruck (55.27) finished fourth overall with a time of 3:45.41.

Japan’s foursome of Sachi Mochida (55.86), Hiroko Makino (57.14), Runa Imai (57.30) and Rikako Ikee (55.87) took fifth in prelims with a final time of 3:46.17.

China was sixth overall with a finishing time of 3:47.07, while Brazil took seventh overall with a 3:47.74.

Germany rounded out the top eight with a time of 3:49.30.

WOMEN’S 1500 FREE

Olivia Anderson of Canada topped the competition in the women’s 1500-meter free during prelims of day five of the 2015 FINA World Junior Championships. Anderson turned in a time of 16:37.03 to grab the current top ranking. The fourth and final heat of the event will kick off tonight’s finals session.

Hungary’s Janka Juhasz turned in a finishing time of 16:38.31 to finish second overall in prelims, bettering on her seed time of 16:40.39.

Tamila Holub of Portugal grabbed third in prelims with a final time of 16:43.22, shaving 4.15 seconds off her seed time of 16:43.22.

Australia’s Mikayla Messer finished fourth overall with a time of 16:49.97, while Ireland’s Antoinette Neamt was fifth overall with a final time of 16:55.87.

Mexico’s Natalia Jaspeado posted a final time of 17:01.60 for a sixth place finish, and Canada’s Tessa Cieplucha was close behind with a 17:03.13.

Spain’s Marina Castro rounded out the top eight with a final time of 17:06.14.
