MIT Wins Three Events To Begin NEWMAC Championships

Day one final results: 2016 NEWMAC Day One – Results

The 2016 NEWMAC Championships began on Feb. 18 at the MIT Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center. MIT asserted their dominance early on, winning all three events.

The MIT relay team of Addie Chambers (1:51.94), Theresa Lo (1:56.03), Kate Yu (1:57.15), and Veronica Jedryka (1:51.95) won the women’s 800 free relay in 7:37.07.

Springfield’s Kassandra Lamb (1:56.45), Delaney Dyjak (1:54.81), Olivia Paione (1:54.42), and Callie Phillips (1:52.78) weren’t too far behind, finishing in 7:38.46.

The MIT men’s team of Daniel Smith (1:41.86), Dougie Kogut (1:39.22), Daryl Neubieser (1:41.15), and John Matthews (1:41.69) won the 800 free relay in 6:43.92.

Coast Guard’s Ross Garrett (1:42.50), Dan Moreno (1:42.73), Mike Franco (1:42.81), and Timothy Dion (1:42.82) finished second in 6:50.86.

MIT took the top two spots in the men’s 1m diving event, and the top three finishers were all freshmen. Jeremy Sands won with a score of 457.15, and teammate Elliot Forde dove to second in 442.35. Coast Guard’s Will French was third (414.00).

Prelims will begin at 10am EST. Friday’s action will see the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 200 free relay, 400 medley relay, and women’s 3m diving.
