Drury On Top After Day One of GLVCs

After the first night of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships, both Drury’s men’s and women’s teams are in first place. It’s a close meet on the men’s side with Missouri S&T trailing Drury by only three points. There were also mutliple GLVC records broken.

Women’s Meet

In the finals of the women’s 1000 freestyle Drury’s Sarah Pullen took the win in a time of 10:07.52. With this time she broke her own 2014 GLVC record of 10:08.35. Maddie Allen from William Jewell came in second (10:12.34) and another Drury swimmer, Megan Ouhl touched third in a 10:14.41.

In the women’s 200 IM Truman State University’s Evyn Spencer bested her morning time by over three seconds going a 2:00.95 to take the gold. This time also broke the previous GLVC recocrd of 2:01.50. Drury’s Gretchen Stein sped into second with a 2:02.51 and William Jewell’s Paige Meredith finished third with the time of 2:04.01.

Wen Xu from Drury kept her number one spot tonight in the 50 free gong a 23.01. Truman State’s Nikki Sisson took the silver with a 23.51 and Stefanie Haholiades from UINDY snuck into third place (23.75).

In the 200 yard medley relay Drury’s team of Abby Lunzmann (26.71), Corinne Rinne (29.75), Vera Johansson (24.18) and Wen Xu (22.56) won the event in a time of 1:43.20. It was a race to the podium for the second and third place teams, however. Truman State’s team of Grace Fodor (26.61), Ally Neumann (29.83), Libby Opfer (26.09) and Alison Strickler (23.56) out touched the UINDY team for second (1:46.09). The team of Malvina Shoukri (26.99), Michelle Mikaelsson (29.34), Laura Bem (26.60) and Stefanie Hahoilades (23.30) touched third (1:46.23).

Men’s Meet

In the men’s 1000 free Drury’s Alex Reinrecht won the event in the time of 9:14.54. It was a race for second between UINDY and William Jewell. But it was Vitor Botana from UINDY (9:17.08) that out touched William Jewell’s Joao Pedro Granato (9:17.66).

Rodrigo Cordo Berti (1:48.24) won the men’s 200 IM for the University of Indianapolis. He also broke the GLVC record by one one hundredth of a second. Berti just out touched Truman’s Will Shanel who came in second with a 1:48.72. S&T Missouri’s Eirik Nielsen touched the wall third in a time of 1:49.14.

Missouri University of S&T’s Keith Sponsor was just shy of going under 20 seconds in the men’s 50 freestyle tonight. However with a time of 20.04 he won the event and broke his own 2015 GLVC record of 20.28. Drury placed first and second with Daniel Rzadkowski (20.28) coming in second and Rodrigo Caceres (20.30) coming in third.

In the men’s 200 medley relay UINDY’s team swam to the gold breaking their own 2015 GLVC record. The squad of Rodrigo Cordo Berti (22.18), Bartosz Zarzecki (24.44), Tyler Coonradt (22.01) and Marius Bornkessel (20.07) won the event in a 1:28.70. Drury and Missouri S&T battled it out for second. In a time of 1:30.26, the Drury team of Aidan Glynn (23.49), Andrea Bazzoli (25.05), Stanislav Kuzmin (21.62) and Rodrigo Caceres (20.10) came in second. Ethan Shih (23.69), Miguel Chavez (24.93), Erik Nielson (21.77) and Morgan Meyer (20.13) of Missouri S&T came in third (1:30.52)
