Assumption Women and Southern Connecticut Men Win the Northeast 10 Championships

After the final session of the Northeast 10 Conference Championships it was the Southern Connecticut men who came in first and Assumption College who took the women’s title.

Assumption’s Shannon Quirk won the women’s 1650 with a 17.19.08. With this time, she broke the 2010 NE record of 17.20.43. Teammate Rachel Lanam came in third going a 17:37.74 and PACE’s Madison Kiefer got third (17:33.86).

SCSU’s Louis Geist came in first in the men’s 1650, going 16.05.10. PACE took second and third place. Daniel Galarza came in second in 16:13.08 and teammate Brian Sosa came in third with 16:19.19.

In the women’s 200 backstroke this morning 100 backstroke winner, Tara O’Donnell of Le Moyne finished first with a time of 2:03.30. Bentley’s Kate Kaduboski bettered her prelims time by a couple of seconds to place second (2:05.82) and Assumption’s Niamh Morgan (2:07.51) came in third.

In the men’s 200 backstroke Southern Connecticut took both first in second place. Raymond Cswerko won the event with a 1:49.60, and SCSU junior Raymond Snyder came in second with a 1:52.32. PACE’s Brian Sosa snuck into third place with the time of 1:52.81.

In the women’s 100 freestyle Southern Connecticut’s Katie Crochet won the event and bettered her time and NE 10 record with a 51.19. Bentley’s Kaitlin McGahie went a 52.72 coming in second and SCSU’s Katherine Krajick finished third (53.60).

SCSU’s sprinter Brendan Murphy won the men’s 100 freestyle and broke the 2008 NE 10 record of 45.33, touching in first with a 45.51, teammate Tyler Vander Vos came in second right behind Murphy with a 45.51 and Nianzhing Liu went a 45.08 for the bronze.

In the women’s 200 breaststroke it was Bentley’s Emily Niemiec who moved up from third to first place in the time of 2:23.18. Saint Rose’s Shannon Walsh finished second in a 2:23.57 and Southern Connecticut’s Lilly Martin got third (2:24.96).

Christopher Curtin of SCSU moved up from this morning bettering his time to a 2:03.87 and taking the gold. PACE’s Alexandar Dimcevski finished in second with a 2:04.27 and Elie McRae came in third right behind him with a 2:04.44.

In the women’s 200 butterfly Assumption’s Rachel Lanam swam her way to first place with the time of 2:07.98. Bentley’s Anne Warren went 2:08.39 for second place and SCSU’s Aubrey Bailey finished third with a 2:08.99.

SCSU came in first and second tonight in the men’s 200 butterfly. Dylan Swanepoel took the win for the owls with the time of 1:51.50. Shane Maypother of Southern Connecticut came in second with a 1:52.55. Travis May came in right behind Maypother with a time of 1:52.85 for third place.

Southern Connecticut won both the men’s and women’s 400 freestyle relays and broke NE 10 Conference record to finish up the last session of the meet.

The SCSU women’s team of Emily Wolfe (54.17), Sydney Fromkin (53.08), Katherine Krajcik (53.24) and Katie Crochet (50.15) won the event with the time of 3:30.64 breaking the previous NE 10 record of 3:32.04. Bentley came in second (3:32.20) with the team of Brooke Jameson (54.34), Kate Kaduboski (53.75), Emily Niemiec (52.74) and Kaitlin McGahie (51.37). Le Monye finished right behind with Tara O’Donnell (51.67), Alyssa Baker (53.95), Sarah Gaffney (54.38) and Kelsey Smith (52.96) went a 3:32.96.

The Owl’s men’s team won the event (3:01.24) with the team of Brendan Murphy (45.29), Tyler Vander Vos (44.90), Raymond Snyder (46.54) and Raymond Cswerko (44.51) who broke the previous record of 3:05.36. PACE’s team came in second with Andresious Cyprianos (46.86), Travis Monahan (47.71), Dominick Mignano (47.71) and Nianzhong Liu (45.67) going a 3:05.50. Cory Knapp (47.47), Andy Raiola (46.76), Eric Burdge (47.03) and Travis May (45.76) of Le Moyne came in third with a 3:07.02.
