Four Schools Awarded ACC Weekly Honors

Six Atlantic Coast Conference swimmers and divers representing four schools were recognized with weekly awards, the conference announced on Tuesday.

Hennessey Staurt was named the ACC Co-Male Swimmer of the Week for leading NC State past North Carolina and Virginia. The sophomore won both the 100 and 200 back and placed fourth in the 200 IM.

Louisville’s Grigory Tarasevich was the other recipient of the ACC Co-Male Swimmer of the Week honor. In the Cardinals’ meet against Indiana, the junior won both the 100 and 200 back and was a member of the winning 200 medley relay team.

Virginia’s Leah Smith was named the ACC Female Swimmer of the Week for her three individual wins as the Cavaliers swept NC State and North Carolina. The junior posted a nation-leading time of 9:34.21 en route to winning the 1000, and also notched wins in the 200 free and 500.  This is her third weekly award of her career.

Jack Nyquist was the ACC Male Diver of the Week for winning three of four events as his team took on NC State, Virginia, and Duke over the weekend. The North Carolina junior swept both diving events against Duke, while winning the 3m against NC State and Virginia.

North Carolina’s Elissa Dawson was named the ACC Co-Female Diver of the Week for her strong performances on the boards against Virginia, NC State, and Duke. The sophomore placed third on the 1m in both meets, while dominating the 3m. This is her fifth weekly award of the season.

NC State’s Rachel Mumma was the other recipient of the ACC Co-Female Diver of the Week award for her efforts on both boards against North Carolina and Virginia. The senior placed second on the 3m and first on the 1m, her 13th first-place finish of the season. This is her fourth weekly award of the year.
