Two years ago, Caeleb Dressel didn’t know if he would return to the water. Now, he is going to compete in an individual event at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. After coming back after taking nearly six months out of the pool following surgery for a deviated septum, Dressel had an emotional reaction to his Olympic opportunity. “I’m really proud of myself,” he said in the following interview.

Dressel qualified for the Olympics in the 100 freestyle after touching second behind Nathan Adrian in tonight’s finals. Adrian touched in a 47.72, but Dressel held his own and lunged to the wall at the finish with a 48.23.
