NEW COMMIT: The University of California, Berkeley has received another impressive verbal commitment for its loaded Class of 2025, this time from freestyler Ella Cosgrove of Tucson, Arizona.

She will arrive in Berkeley along with Annie Jia, Teagan O’DellClaire Weinstein and Alex Shackell.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of California, Berkeley. I would love to thank my parents, siblings, coaches, teammates, and friends for all their support. I am so grateful for the teams and coaches I got to know throughout this process. A special thank you to Coach Durden, Coach @kim_williams22, and all the Cal coaches for this opportunity. I can’t wait to be a part of this amazing team. Go Bears!”

Cosgrove trains year-round with Scottsdale Aquatic Club and most recently placed second in the 400m free at the NCSA Spring Championships where she also recorded six additional top-18 finishes. She earned three gold medals at Arizona Seniors in February and finished second in both the 500 free and mile at Juniors West in December.

Cosgrove also competed in the 800m free at the World Aquatic Championships in Doha, finishing 16th while representing Canada. She raced to seventh in that event at World Junior Championships last fall.

Her best times include:

  • 1650 free – 16:19.08
  • 1000 free – 9:53.35
  • 500 free – 4:41.84
  • 200 free – 1:46.03
  • 100 free – 49.19
  • 50 free – 23.07
  • 200 back – 1:56.82
  • 100 back – 54.68
  • 50 back – 26.14

Currently a junior at Catalina Foothills High School, Cosgrove won the 200 free and 500 free at the 2021 AIA Division 2 State Championships during her freshman season.
