Mike Troy recently passed away and we thought we would pull this exclusive interview out of the Swimming World TV vault to learn more about his life in his own words.

PHOENIX, Arizona, July 20, 2010. THE 50th anniversary of the 1960 Olympics is almost upon us, and on today’s special edition of The Morning Swim Show, we bring you an encore Ready Room interview with host Brent Rutemiller and 1960 double gold medalist Mike Troy.

Troy was a student-athlete at Indiana University at the beginning of Doc Counsilman’s career there, and Troy talks about the mental preparation Counsilman taught his swimmers leading up to the Olympic Games. At the 1960 Olympic Trials in Detroit, Troy broke his world record in the 200 fly twice. He also talks about how judges handled placing in the days before electronic timing systems and the frustration dealing with the multiple-false-start rule.
