Aussie Legend Grant Hackett Moving To Tempe To Train With Michael Phelps
Australian swimming legend Grant Hackett, who returned to action from retirement just last year, will join his longtime friend Michael Phelps in Tempe to for a month-long training camp prior to competing at the U.S. Winter Nationals next month according to the Daily Telegraph.
“Obviously he is the greatest of all time and we’ve been talking about this for some time so I thought I want to make sure I enjoy this (comeback) process as much as I can,” Hackett said. “There are no guarantees for me. I will be 36 next year and only ever set out to do this to get fit.
Hackett first decided to return to the sport after he witnessed Phelps’ return from retirement at the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships. Phelps’ entry in that meet sparked the conversation that led Hackett to return to the sport he dominated for years.
Hackett has decided to not enter the Australian short course championships and will instead train with Phelps and head coach Bob Bowman at Arizona State for a month.
