GILLETTE, Wyoming, March 1. KELLY Walsh scored 265 points at the Wyoming 4A High School Swimming and Diving Championships Feb. 28-March 1. That gave the Trojans their first 4A title since 2002. Cheyenne Central gained second by one point over Campbell County for second, 205 to 204. Laramie finished fourth with 179 points, and Cheyenne East took fifth with 141.
Kelly Walsh's 200 free relay set the lone state record of the competition with their 1:25.95. The quartet of Levi Jensen and Andrew Belveal (seniors), Talon Marquard (junior) and Jeremy Young (sophomore) bettered the long-standing (1997) mark of 1:26.89 by Green River. Jensen defended his individual title in the 100 breast in 56.62, and Young's 1:56.83 gave him the top spot on the podium in the 200 IM.
Cheyenne Central nabbed the other two relay titles. The 200 medley relay of seniors Kyle White, Andrew Ehardt, Brandon Troudt and Thomas Reams combined for a 1:35.90. Sophomore Ian White joined Reams, Troudt and Kyle White to take the 400 free relay in 3:12.96. White, who will be swimming close to home at the University of Wyoming, was tops in the 200 free (1:42.45) and Reams posted a 46.81 in the 100 free for the win.
Kayden Harbison, a junior at Rock Springs, finished first in the 500 free for the second straight year with his 4:38.93. Laramie senior Slade Sheaffer improved on his fourth-place finish in 2013 with his first-place swim of 52.33. Also improving from fourth last year to first this year was Kelly Walsh senior Brady Saunders, who grabbed the diving title with 357.85 points. Sheaffer's classmate at Laramie, Nick Mavriplis, nabbed the 100 fly (53.76).
