MADISON, Wisconsin, February 22. EDGEWOOD High School, thanks in great part to its sweep of the relay events, earned its first-ever championship banner at the Wisconsin Boys Division 2 High School Swimming and Diving Championships February 20-21 at the University of Wisconsin in Madison.

The Crusaders, who finished second last year, combined for 294 points, ahead of McFarland's 242. Monona Grove, last year's champion, claimed third with 224. Shorewood finished fourth (205), ahead of Ashwaubenon's 135.

Edgewood began the meet with the first of its three relay victories. Payton teDuits (senior), Austin Darien (junior), Zack Parkin (senior) and Phillip Fochios (freshman) joined forces for a 1:36.89 in the 200 medley relay. Parkin joined senior Jack McLaughlin, plus juniors Joey Basche and Jacob Lynn, for a first-place 1:26.29 in the 200 free relay. Closing out the meet, the quartet of McLaughlin, Lynn, teDuits and Parkin put together a 3:11.95 for the 400 free relay victory.

Individually, Parkin captured the 50 free title in 20.92 and teDuits posted third-place swims in both the 100 back (52.82) and 200 IM (1:56.81).

Shawano Community junior Zach Soper claimed first place in both the 100 back (50.79) and 100 fly (52.24). Kevin Van Cleave, a junior at Brookfield Academy, finished first in the 200 IM (1:53.98) and tied with DeForest junior Nick Potter in the 500 free (4:39.82).

Three seniors took advantage of their last high school meet to grab an event title: Beaver Dam's Jan Hansen (100 free, 46.12), Monona Grove's Andrew Sackett (200 free, 1:43.36) and McFarland's Tony Donagan (100 breast, 59.27).

Joe Kaszubowski, a Whitefish Bay junior, took home his third straight diving title with this year's total of 551.95 points.
