Flash! Nikolay Skvortsov Downs World Record at Russian Short Course Nationals – Updated with splits

ST. PETERSBURG, Florida, February 12. DURING the final day of swimming at the Russian Short Course Nationals this week, Nikolay Skvortsov started 2009 with a world record in the men's 200 fly.

Skvortsov, who set the previous iteration of the global standard in the event with a 1:50.60 at the 2008 European Short Course Championships in December, clocked a sterling time of 1:50.53 at the Russian meet.

Here are the comparative splits between the two swims:
2009: 25.30, 53.47 (28.17), 1:22.13 (28.66), 1:50.53 (28.40)

2008: 25.33, 53.53 (28.20), 1:22.19 (28.66), 1:50.60 (28.41)

Meanwhile, three Russian records fell with Anna Kiseleva clocking a time of 2:08.29 in the women's 200 fly, while Valentina Artemeva took the women's 50 fly standard with a 26.23. Additionally, Stanislav Lakhtuikov grabbed the men's 200 breast national record with a 2:05.54.
