The Morning Swim Show: Recapping Upsets, World Records from Water Cube; Jim Montgomery Talks About His Barrier-Breaking 100 Free from 1976 -- August 14, 2008

PHOENIX, Arizona, August 14. THE Morning Swim Show is back to analyze the fast and surprising action in the Water Cube on the fifth morning of finals.

Host Peter Busch talks to Swimming World senior writer John Lohn, who details the excitement displayed by the mostly Chinese crowd when Liu Zige led a 1-2 finish for the home country in the 200 fly, then the shock when top qualifier Pang Jiaying was disqualified for a false start in the women's 100 free.

Today's Olympic Rewind features an interview with swimming legend Jim Montgomery, the first man to swim the 100 free under 50 seconds. Montgomery talks about his lofty goal for that race, which he didn't achieve because he said the race was the last in the meet and he had been exhausted from the competition. He also talks about the impact the swim has had on his life so far.
