Zane Grothe Tops Solid Distance Field in Austin

Auburn graduate Zane Grothe took the men’s 800 freestyle tonight with a solid in-season time of 7:56.69 while N.C. State’s Anton Ipsen took second with a 7:57.64. Clark Smith faded to third with his 8:00.70 while China’s Qiu Ziao and Louisville’s Marcelo Acosta took fourth and fifth. In sixth was Japan’s Kohei Yamamoto while Michael Brinegar and Shogo Takeda rounded out the filed by placing seventh and eighth.
