Zane Grothe had a very good finish to his 2017 where he broke two American records at the Winter Nationals in December. Grothe transferred that momentum to long course at the TYR Pro Swim Series in Austin to get his 2018 off to a good start. He won the 200 free final on Thursday night in Austin with a 1:48.18.

Grothe used his back half to pull away from Texas’ Clark Smith (1:49.34) and Georgia’s Matias Koski (1:49.91). Trey Freeman (1:50.15), Jeremy Bagshaw (1:50.52), Anton Ipsen (1:51.04), Andreas Vazaios (1:51.04) and Andrej Barna (1:51.91) also competed in the championship final.

Grothe picked up points for Kaitlin Sandeno while Smith represents Jason Lezak.
