Zachary Buerger Claims Two Wins at Shortened Ithaca Sectionals

Due to a lack of interest in the meet and swimmers withdrawing from competition the Long Course Speedo Sectionals held at Ithaca were condensed into a two day meet. Despite the skewed structure of the meet many swimmers produced fast times and a wide variety of winners emerged.

Geordie Enoch of Eagle Swim Team Inc. dominated the women’s 200-meter IM with a final time of 2:18.09, finishing 6.07 seconds ahead of the competition. Ann Juneau of Allegheny North Swim Club grabbed second with a 2:24.16, while Kristen Vargas, swimming unattached, took third with a 2:25.41.

Zachary Buerger, swimming unattached, dashed to first in the men’s 200-meter IM touching in 2:07.26.Central Bucks’ Collin Villari turned in a 2:13.70 for second, while Christopher Curtin of Laurel E. Hartford YMCA rounded out the top three with a 2:14.27.

Morgan Scott of Central Bucks Swim Team claimed first in the women’s 100-meter free with a time of 58.06. Teammate Hannah Zurmuhl was a close second with a 58.47, while Mary Kathryn Smith of Pack Swim Team of Pittsford rounded out the top three with a 59.11.

Edward Zawatski of Cyc Rally Aquatic Club posted a final time of 52.81 to win the men’s 100-meter free. Central Bucks’ Greg Brocato (53.22) and Eagle Swim Team Inc’s Samuel Davis (53.30) finished second and third respectively.

Eva Crouse, swimming unattached, turned in a 1:12.44 to claim first in the women’s 100-meter breaststroke. Enoch took second with a 1:13.36, while Brittany Weiss of Central Bucks was third with a 1:16.00.

There was no stopping Brendan McHugh of Greater Philadelphia Aquatics as he cruised to a win in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke, finishing 6.26 seconds ahead of the competition with a time of 1:01.06. Eric Delmonte of Portland Porpoise Swim club grabbed second with a 1:07.32, while Andrew Bomstein of Ridgefield Aquatic Club was a close third with a final time of 1:07.51.

Central Bucks‘ Allie Szekely turned in a sizzling 2:16.21 for the win in the women’s 200-meter fly. Packs’  Emma Corby posted a 2:22.05 for second, while Kristen Murslack, swimming unattached, finished third with a 2:23.82.

Buerger claimed his second win of the night in the men’s 200-meter fly posting a winning time of 2:06.07. Douglas Kogut of Eagle Swim Team Inc. took second with a time of 2:08.04, while Carl St. John, swimming unattached, rounded out the top three with a 2:10.69.

Jacquelyn Du of Allegheny North Swim Club grabbed first in the women’s 100-meter back with a final time of 1:04.21. Scott finished second with a 1:05.85, while Victoria Buerger, also of Allegheny North Swim Club, was third with a 1:08.12.

Joseph Vizza of Central Bucks was triumphant in the men’s 100-meter back finishing first with a 59.68 and being the only swimmer under the one-minute mark. Second went to Corey Smith of North Penn Aquatics who turned in a 1:00.52, and third was fellow Central Buck Connor Killion with a 1:00.85.

Lindsay Stone of Packs sailed to first in the women’s 400-meter free touching the wall in 4:21.68. Jessica Powers of University at Buffalo Swim Team claimed second with a 4:23.19, while Hannah Bollinger, swimming unattached, rounded out the top three with a 4:34.72.

Patrick Savidge of Laurel E. Hartford YMCA cruised to a first-place finish in the men’s 400-meter free with a final time of 4:08.93. Swim Ithaca’s Kevin Miller turned in a 4:11.31 for second, and third went to Eben Krigger of Allegheny North Swim Club who posted a 4:12.76.

What a disappointment of a meet for kids hoping to go there and swim
against their peers. Even with the condensed form most events only had 2 heats. The right decision would have been to cancel and not have everyone drag their sorry you know what’s there.

The 1500 and 800 raced on thurs too
