Youssef Ramadan Sets 100 Fly Pool Record in Virginia Tech Romp over Penn State

Virginia Tech’s Youssef Ramadan swam a pair of school records and won three events as the Hokies swept Penn State in a pair of decisive wins.

The No. 13 ranked Va Tech men scored a 196.5-103.5 win, while the women coasted to a 213-83 victory.

Ramadan led off the men’s 200 medley relay in 21.93 to help the Hokies set a home pool record of 1:25.13. Carles Coll Marti, Antani Ivanov and Thomas Hallock joined him on the foursome.

Ramadan won the 100 fly in 45.34, another Virginia Tech pool mark. He also won the 100 free in 42.44.

Coll Marti claimed the 200 free and 50 free. Ivanov won the 200 fly. Sam Tornqvist won the 100 backstroke and was second in the 200 back. Luis Dominguez won the 500 free and 1,000 free, the latter in a top-10 program time of 9:09.63. Filippo Dal Maso won the 400 individual medley.

ACC Swimming

On the women’s side, Emma Atkinson set a pool record in the 200 back with a time of 1:52.52. She also won the 100 back and led off the winning 200 medley relay.

“Our team is in a very good position,” Virginia Tech coach Sergio Lopez Miro said in a team release. “We got to race at a high level and had some pretty good times. All of our coaches believe we are on the right path. Our next meet, South Carolina and Duke will be coming in for the Virginia Tech Invitational. That will be a good test the swimmers preparing for ACC’s. It was great to honor our seniors, today. They have given so much to the team. Overall, a very good week for swimming and diving.”

Chase Travis swept the distance freestyle events. Reka Gyorgy pulled an impressive triple by winning the 200 free, 200 breast and 400 IM. Sarah Shackelford prevailed in the two sprints.

Luana Alson set a top-10 program time in the 100 fly in 53.03. Karissa Franz won the 200 fly. Noah Zawadzki and Teagan Moravek swept the men’s and women’s diving events, respectively.

Three of Penn State four wins came in breaststroke. Daniel Raisanen swept the men’s 100 breast and 200 breast. Olivia Jack won the women’s 100 breast for the Nittany Lions’ only victory.

Michael Daly won the men’s 200 back and finished second in the 100 back and 400 IM.
