World Cup Tashkent, Day 2 Finals: Cam McEvoy & Egor Kornev to Renew Battle
The second day of finals get underway at the World Cup in Tashkent with Cam McEvoy, Egor Kornev and Marrit Steenbergen taking to the water.
Women’s 400IM Fastest Heat
Yu Yiting led from start to finish to capture the crown despite a storming final 25 from Abbie Wood. The Chinese swimmer came home in 4:27.09 with Wood going 4:28.90 and Waka Kobori third in 4:29.02.

Women’s 200m Freestyle
Siobhan Haughey dominated throughout to clinch victory in 1:51.02. Anna Peplowski touched in 1:53.32 for second with Freya Colbert next home in 1:53.46.
Men’s 200m Individual Medley
Shaine Casas came through on the final 50 in 1:51.81. Carson Foster moved from fifth at 175m for second in 1:52.21 with Finlay Knox third in 1:52.33
Women’s 100m Backstroke
Marrit Steenbergen continued her World Cup gold rush with a 55.32 victory. Taylor Ruck was second in 56.38 with Anna Peplowski returning to the water around 13 minutes after 200 free silver to capture bronze in 57.37.
Men’s 50m Breaststroke
Michael Houlie made it a second South African gold in the space of half an hour when he touched in 25.67. Kirill Prigoda was second in 25.82 with Caspar Corbeau taking third in 25.92, 0.02 ahead of Qin Haiyang (25.94).
Women’s 50m Butterfly
Roos Vanotterdijk came from second at the turn to take the title in 24.75 ahead of Sara Junevik (25.06) and Arina Surkova (25.08).
Men’s 100m Freestyle
Cam McEvoy and Egor Kornev shared the honours after the Russian made up a deficit of 0.25 at the final turn. The pair couldn’t be separated as they touched the wall in 45.24. Ivan Girev made it a second Russian on the podium in third in 46.51.
It was a second medal of the night for Kornev following his 50 back silver.
Women’s 100m Breaststroke
Mona McSharry made another trip to the podium with victory in 1:04.25, 0.25 ahead of Evgeniia Chikunova (1:04.50). Florine Gaspard and Tes Schouten – training mates in Antwerp – shared third place with the Netherlands swimmer coming from seventh at the final turn in 1:05.38.
Men’s 200m Butterfly
Chen Juner led from start to finish to clinch victory in 1:49.98. So Ogata of Japan was second in 1:50.29 with Alberto Razzetti next home in 1:53.09.
