Wisconsin-Green Bay vs. South Dakota

VERMILLION, South Dakota, November 6. JUST 15 hours after defeating South Dakota State Friday night in Brookings, the Green Bay men's and women's swimming and diving teams turned around to beat South Dakota Saturday morning at the USD Swimming Pool. The Phoenix women cruised to a 159-82 win over the Coyotes, while the men earned a 145-96 victory.

Green Bay's women won 10 of the meet's 13 events, while the men's team had a winner in seven events as both squads improved to 3-1 in dual meets this season.

Saturday marked another successful outing for the Phoenix diving crew, as Green Bay combined to win three of the four diving events while breaking a pool record and qualifying another diver for the NCAA Zone Diving Regional at the end of the season.

Senior Kayla Deters (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) picked up a win in the women's 1-meter competition, posting a score of 266.40. Men's senior Wilson Robinson (Hibbing, Minn.) placed second on the 1-meter board with an impressive score of 305.55, qualifying him for NCAA Zones for the second consecutive season. Robinson joins junior Daniel Pogue (Chisholm, Minn), who qualified in the team's season opener against Cleveland State.

Pogue won twice for the Phoenix men, breaking his second pool record in as many days. The two-time defending Horizon League Diver of the Week's winning total of 289.95 on the 3-meter board broke the USD Swimming Pool's standard, while his score of 310.57 was just enough to edge Robinson for the 1-meter win.

In the pool, junior Amy Burback (Waunakee, Wis.) racked up three wins for the Phoenix women. Burback took the 100-meter freestyle (1:00.68) and 100-meter breaststroke (1:16.53) and also helped her team's 200 medley relay earn a victory (2:03.91).

Fellow junior Amber Bartholomew (Alexandria, Minn.) was also a three-time winner on Saturday, taking the 200 individual medley (2:28.93) and 100 backstroke (1:08.50) while joining Burback on the winning 200 medley relay team.

Other individual winners for the Phoenix women include senior Katelyn Bodin (Maple Grove, Minn.) in the 100 butterfly (1:08.97), freshman Parker Wolf (Kohler, Wis.) in the 50 free (28.02) and freshman Kendra Rottier (Green Bay, Wis.) in the 800 free (9:23.78).

On the men's side, freshman Robert Wolf (Wind Lake, Wis.) took the 800 free in 9:05.23, while classmate Brian Heiser (McFarland, Wis.) placed first in the 400 free (4:18.42). Also picking up individual victories for the Green Bay men were seniors Ryan Loy (New London, Wis.) and Jason Askew (Durban, South Africa). Loy took the 100 fly in 58.96, while Askew won the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.35.

Green Bay returns to action next weekend with a pair of home dual meets against St. Cloud State. The Phoenix men and women host the Huskies on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Dorschel Natatorium.
