William Jewell Appoints Jean Madison as Assistant Swim Coach

William Jewell Interim Athletic Director Tom Eisenhauer has announced the hiring of Jean Madison as the new full-time Assistant Men’s and Women’s Swimming Coach. ” I am delighted that Jean has decided to join the Cardinal family. I believe she will be a valuable asset to William Jewell College and the men’s and women’s swimming teams.” he said.

Madison, who will officially begin her duties on June 1, comes to Jewell from Texas Christian University where she served as a graduate assistant for two years. While at TCU, Madison helped the women’s team to a fifth place finish and the men to a third place mark at the 2017 Big 12 Championships, while helping to coach 42 All-Big 12 performers.

Head coach Mark Gole is excited to welcome his first full-time assistant saying “we are extremely excited to have Jean join the staff here at William Jewell College! She comes highly recommended from both her college coach (Randy Horner – FIU) and her recent head coach at Texas Christian University (Richard Sybesma). Her passion for the sport of swimming and excitement for the opportunity to be a part of our program stood out during the hiring process. I believe that Jean will make an immediate impact on the program in many ways and I am looking forward to helping her develop as a coach.”

This sentiment was echoed by his new assistant “William Jewell is a diamond in the rough. Walking on campus, seeing how beautiful it was sold me” said Madison. “Coach Gole is an outstanding coach who has developed Jewell into the program it is. I can see us building an empire with our team.”

A a former division I standout, Madison is a product of nearby Lee’s Summit, Mo. who took her talents to Florida International University. A four-year letter winner for the Panthers, she completed her career with top ten times in three different events and served as a team captain as a junior and senior. She capped her career by leading her team to the 2015 Conference USA Championship, the first such title in school history for any sport. While at FIU her team also earned three College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America team honors while Madison was also a member of the Academy of Leaders in 2014.

While at Lee’s Summit West High School, she was an All-American and All-State swimmer, placing third in the 100 meter breaststroke at the Missouri State Championships.

She will be assisting with all aspects of the Cardinal programs, including recruiting, training, operations, and overall student-athlete development. “The talent and drive that these kids have at Jewell is something I can’t wait to be a part of. There is no doubt in my mind that this program will better my coaching career but I see myself a part of the Jewell family for a long time” she said following her hiring.

Madison earned her undergraduate degree in physical education – sport and fitness with a minor in communication from Florida International in 2015 and most recently completed a Master of Arts in liberal arts at Texas Christian.
