Will Licon With Another Big 12 Record During Thursday Night

AUSTIN – Texas continued its inevitable march to the Big 12 team titles tonight with the highlight of the night coming from Will Licon’s 200-yard IM Big 12 mark.

Men’s Meet

For the third time this season, Texas’ Clark Smith cleared 4:14 to win the 500-yard free with a 4:13.71.  Texas also finished 2-3-4-5 as Jonathan Roberts (4:15.40), Clay Youngquist (4:16.92), Sam Lewis (4:17.01) and Jake Ritters (4:18.73) comprised the rest of the top five.

Will Licon dropped the Big 12 record in the 200-yard IM with a 1:41.67 for the win.  That’s an NCAA A cut as Licon continues to shine in the event.

Joseph Schooling turned in a strong time of his own with a second-place time of 1:42.99, while West Virginia’s Nate Carr snared third overall in 1:44.70.

Matt Ellis hit the wall in 19.57 to win the 50-yard freestyle tonight.  West Virginia’s Tim Squires placed second in 19.59 with Texas freshman Brett Ringgold picking up third-place honors in 19.70.

Texas’ Kip Darmody (46.45), Imri Ganiel (53.09), Joseph Schooling (45.20) and Jack Conger (42.26) won the 400-yard medley relay with a 3:07.00 for an NCAA A cut.

West Virginia (3:11.12) and TCU (3:14.70) finished second and third.

Women’s Meet

Kelsey Leneave kicked off the night with a victory as she charged to a 4:43.01 for the 500-yard free title. Kaitlin Pawlowicz finished just shy of Leneave with a second-place 4:43.44, while Sammie Hashbarger wound up third in 4:48.91.

Madisyn Cox of Texas clinched the 200-yard IM crown in 1:56.94, while teammate Skylar Smith (1:58.82) and Tasija Karosas (2:00.42) claimed second and third overall.

Gretchen Jaques led another Texas 1-2-3.  Jaques topped the 50 free in 22.21 with Brynne Wong claiming second in 22.71.  Rebecca Millard snagged third in the 50 with a 22.82.

Texas’ Emma Ivory-Ganja topped the one-meter diving finale with 331.10 points, while teammates Meghan Houston (318.95) and Samantha Bromberg (292.25) took second and third.

Texas closed out the night with a win in the 400-yard medley relay.  Tasija Karosas (53.60), Gretchen Jaques (58.56), Kelsey Leneave (53.18) and Rebecca Millard (48.53) touched in an NCAA A cut time of 3:33.87.

Kansas (3:40.18) and Iowa State (3:43.24) placed second and third.

Was that Licon at :51.50 on C relay breast (no name given in results sheet but who else could it be?), after Ganiel was :53.06 on A and Temple at :51.99 on B? Note that after 200, both B and C were 1:38+, with A a 1:39+.
