Washington vs. Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, Ohio, November 10. THE Washington men's and women's swimming teams swept past Cincinnati in a non-conference swimming meet on Saturday morning. The Husky men defeated Cincinnati, 159-103, while the UW women won by a score of 155-79.

The meet was held in a 50-meter long course facility, compared to the normal 25-yard short course.

Ariana Kukors won three events for the UW women and Emilee Jennings swam to first place finishes in the 50 free (26.95) and 100 free (59.67). David Bai led the UW men with victories in the 100 free (53.81) and 200 free (1:59.45).

Kukors, who swims locally for the King Aquatic Club, swam a 2:03.89 to win the 200 free, a 2:17.37 to win the 200 fly and a 2:35.88 to win the 200 breaststroke.

Also for the UW women, Ashley Daly won the 800 free (9:18.42), Mary Patterson won the 100 back (1:09.13), Maryann Boosalis placed first in the 100 breaststroke (1:15.05) and Jennifer Gong took first in the 200 back (2:30.55). Samantha Dole (50 free and 100 back) and Jessica Buchanan (100 and 200 breast) both had two second place finishes.

In addition to Bai's two wins, Washington also got first place finishes from Jereme Barnett-Woods in the 800 free (8:58.84), Yonatan Cohen in the 100 breast (1:07.80) and Andre Blyth in the 200 fly (2:09.83).

Ivan Perhat (50 and 100 free) and Jon Banker (200 fly and 200 back) each had two second place finishes.

Both the men's 200 free relay team and the 200 medley relay team swam to first place finishes.

Perhat, Bai, Cohen and Brenton Dowdy teammed up to swim a 1:36.93 in winning the 200 free relay.

In the 200 medley relay, Cohen, Perhat, Bret Lundgaard and Evan Bernier swam to first place in a time of 1:49.35.

The Husky women improved to 3-2 overall with the win, while the UW men are now 2-3.

Both squad's return to the pool next Friday, Nov. 16, when they host British Columbia at 12 p.m. at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
