Rising-senior Presley Wetterstrom of the Washington State women’s swim team set a U.S. Olympic Team Trial qualifying time in the 200 meter breaststroke while competing at the 2015 Arena Swim Series in Santa Clara, Calif., June 20.

The Colfax, Calif., native swam a time of 2 minutes 34.02 seconds in the ‘B’ final to finish 14th overall and earn a spot in the 2016 USA Swimming Olympic Team Trial, June 26-July 3, 2016. The team trial is the sole qualifier for swimmers hoping to earn a spot on the USA Swimming Olympic Team that will compete at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

Wetterstrom clocked a prelim time of 2:33.10 at the George G. Haines International Swim Center, before finishing fifth in her evening final (14th overall) with a time of 2:34.02. Both times cleared the USA Swimming 2016 USA Swimming Olympic Team Trial qualifying mark of 2:34.99.

“It’s a great swim,” WSU Head Coach Tom Jager said. “Presley earned it. She has been working really hard. It’s great to have Washington State represented next year at the Olympic Time Trials, and it shows the direction this WSU program is headed.”

In addition to Wetterstrom, rising-senior Loree Olson and rising-junior Elise Locke also competed at the 2015 Arena Swim Series.

Wetterstrom, who set the school record in the 200 breast last season, is scheduled to compete at the 2015 Phillips 66 National Championships in San Antonio, Texas, Aug. 4-8, 2015. The meet will feature the nation’s top swimmers, including USA Swimming National Team members and Olympic medalists.
