The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and Sir Craig Reedie, chairman of WADA’s Executive Committee recently approved lifting the partial suspension that was delivered to the UCLA Laboratory as it relates to analyzing four specific prohibited substances.

In June of 2017, the UCLA Laboratory had its accreditation partially suspended for four prohibited substances. This partial suspension allowed them to continue all regular anti-doping activities, however they were required to obtain second opinions prior to reporting any findings for those specific prohibited substances.

Olivier Niggli, WADA Director General, commented,

“WADA is pleased to confirm that the UCLA Laboratory’s accreditation has been reinstated approximately three months after the Laboratory was partially suspended. We commend the UCLA Laboratory for their quick and effective response in addressing the issue that led to the partial suspension. Athletes can be confident that the Laboratory is operating at the high standards required by WADA and the global anti-doping program.”

All anti-doping laboratories must remain in accordance with the International Standard for Laboratories (ISL). If a laboratory fails to meet ISL requirements, WADA is responsible for the suspension or revoking of the laboratory’s accreditation. Additionally, WADA holds the responsibility of accrediting anti-doping laboratories if they succeed in meeting ISL requirements.
